The Closing of the Door (Poem)

To A. R. - The Closing of the Door

You lie there in the morning
With calm, unfurrowed brow
Stealing my heart, no warning
You cannot leave me now

A smile as you are waking
Kisses down my spine
You leave my body shaking
Wishing you were mine

But no, I cannot own you
No more than own the sea
Yet my heart would enthrone you
If you belonged to me

As the day it grows older
And the hours seem to fly
My heart grows so much colder
When you turn to say goodbye

I pick the scattered clothes up
From off the bedroom floor
Since my love just rose up
And headed for the door

Your footsteps they are fading
As you slowly walk away
The evening shadows shading
The ending of my day

The tears begin to start up
At the closing of the door
And I pick my shattered heart up
From off the bedroom floor.

This sounds like my weekend. Thanks for the words, they soothe my lonesome heart.
