The eyes have it!

Did you ever notice the connection you have to someone who looks into your eyes while you're talking to them?

The feeling I get from talking to someone who avoids eye contact is difficult to describe, but it's a dis-connection. The other day I was going through a drive-thru at McDonald's expecting the normal shove-the-bag-at-you-thank-you-for-coming-please-come-again
from the person in the window, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the woman looking directly at me, smiling a genuine smile while looking into my eyes and telling me to have a nice day. I was shocked! My eyes locked with hers and I could feel her genuine hope that mine would be a nice day. It felt so good and was so memorable, that a week and a half later, I'm telling YOU about it.

Such a small gesture meant so much.

How have you touched someone? What was a small thing someone did for you that you still remember fondly?

Do you think it made their job easier to seperate from reality and deny that these patients were people? I know that I get very depressed going into nursing homes. You can feel the depression and defeat in the air.

Bravo for sharing your light! I'm getting a little misty, too.
