Some assembly required

So, what have you been up to this weekend? More fun than me, I hope... oops, can't forget... Friday was definitely fun, it's just the Saturday and Sunday that have been not so - other than joining in the revolt yesterday.

Spring cleaning sucks, especially when you have too much stuff (there's a great George Carlin routine on that subject BTW) and end up playing rearrange the stuff so you can find other stuff, while yet deciding which stuff you can safely discard/donate/sell and for which stuff you must find a home.

This weekend was primarily about selling, especially our daughter's extensive inventory of clothing that's too small and toys she no longer plays with. (grammar be damned, "with which she no longer plays" is stilted and way too formal ) She has even more stuff than I thought she had. Don't know if we're going to be able to fit it on the one table we reserved at next weekend's sale. What doesn't sell there ends up with charity.

The secondary madness was to pick up and assemble said daughter's new bed. Pick up... not too bad. Took 30 minutes for them to find the 3 boxes after I got there, but at least they had them and nothing was smashed all to hell. Assembly... started horribly... 3 boxes... where are the instructions? Logic tells me to start with box 1 of 3. Makes sense, right? Nope, no instructions there. Hmmmm, that leaves 2 more choices. At that point I decided to break with logic and look in box number 3. Lo, there were the instructions and assembly hardware. What sick and twisted individual came up with this? Put the items you need first in the box you presume you'd need last? Somehow I think Dogbert had something to do with this situation. OK, found the instructions and hardware... instruction say 2 people, 1 hour. I'm doing this at 2AM and the wife ain't looking too happy about helping, so I'm on my own. Managed to get it done in 1:40, shaving 20 man minutes off what they claimed! Whoo, hoo! This techno geek can operate tools too.

Today, it was find a mattress, matress cover, sheets, yada, yada, yada. Damn, I'm tired, but it's back to the sorting piles for me. Wish me luck.

So, how was your weekend?

Assembly, oh yes! I bought a whole load of furniture about two years ago through an online auction site which cannot be named here but is international, has four letters in its name and is very popular (hint, hint). Now I am getting around to assembling it in my new(ish) house.

A ten thousand piece puzzle without the picture could be easier!

lol - what were you doing starting that at 2am?

I worked Friday night. Then I mostly slept through my one day off. I watched the sequel to Bridget Jones Diary. It was fairly bad. I woke up early today (1pm) and did some cleaning. Now its off to work again in a few hours.

I know that Carlin routine and it is a hoot.
fit TAB A into SLOT B. rerout SLOT C back to TAB A.
I also know the "some assembly required" routine and I am sure all of us parents out there can relate to to the trials of Christmas Eves Past...
Go to garage to rummage for more tools. Return to work area and spend 10 minutes looking for that tiny screw. Curse softly. Burn directions and bend all mismatching parts so they fit. Curse loudly when the thing is finally ruined beyond all repair...

Is this just another trick by keithcancook
to get his text on television?

I know it was insane to start building furniture at 2AM, but I was up and in the mood. If I had waited until Sunday morning I'm guessing the bed would still be in pieces. Daughter comes home tomorrow evening. It should be interesting to see her reaction to her first "big girl" bed.
