Home again

Got a nice surprise on Wednesday afternoon... the office manager called me and said that the Florida trip had been cancelled. Yay! I didn't have to spend last night flying from Chicago to Detroit to Fort Lauderdale and then drive to West Palm Beach. Dodged that bullet. Cost the company $600 for the unused portion of my ticket though since it was non-refundable and I had to "break" the itinerary by not getting on my connecting flight to FLL. Since the salesman cancelled the trip, maybe that should come right off the top of his next commission check? Northwest can use the additional cash anyway... it'll probably end up as part of some executive's "retention bonus." Yeah, like they've done such a good job running the place that you want them to stick around.

So, I'm home for just over a week then D and I are off to Hawaii for nearly 2 weeks. Can't wait for that... just 9 more days until we leave. 3 days on Waikiki, 5 on the north shore of Oahu and then 5 on the Big Island (Waikaloa area). Anyone got some must dos that aren't in the guide books?

Time for me to hula...

1hotwahine - Sorry, no Maui this time. Decided to limit ourselves to 2 islands and Hilton doesn't have a timeshare on Maui.

hbgirl2 - I'll be sure to fill all of you in on the trip.

mizzkitka - Thanks for the tips. I knew about those coconuts though... spent some time with an ex-pat on Grand Cayman and she made a point of telling us not to stand under the palm trees.

Does it cost a lot to travel between Islands? I've never wanted to go to Hawaii, but... I think they still have fairly inexpensive "GEG to [Hawaii]" airfare, and I could get a hotel room at employee rate. I'm considering it for the near-distant future. Will keep watching this post, to see what other wonderful suggestions are made

demonicsexkitten (gotta love that handle!) - Our interisland flight was around $175 between Honolulu and Kona. Not great when you consider my upcoming flight from Detroit to Vegas was $384 and it's a 3 1/2 hour flight vs 40 minutes. All in all though, since we're flying on frequent flier tix (FC to boot ) I didn't have a problem with the interisland rates.

coconut palms are dangerous last few years I have been dreaming of chainsaws to remove the ones I have in my front and backyards although had been thankful none were producing any until this year though they have all started up with the coconuts the fronds had been a big enough problem but boney and I are scared of heights

I definately think it is time for that chainsaw

palms are lovely but only ever plant foxtail or fishtail palms the rest are just far too high maintenence carpentaria poison the ground underneath them so nothing else grows and golden cane drop too many fronds to deal with if you have more than a couple of them....

foxtail palms are VERY expensive but well worth the price when considering a low maintenence garden which is well shaded
