First Ride

I seem to be stuck on a car theme right now...

The first car I ever owned was a 4-cylinder, 4-speed '80 Chevrolet Monza 2+2, a gift from my mother on my 18th birthday so I'd have transportation while at college. Previous to that I'd been driving a "turkey turd" tan AMC Hornet borrowed from my uncle, so this was quite a step up.

As far as I was concerned it was a sports car... it looked the part, even if it didn't have the horses. It ate clutches - something about a known GM design flaw and a young kid seeing if power-shifting was an option just didn't seem to work out so well.

It wasn't long after obtaining my stylin' new ride that we decided to see how many people we could shove into it with the back seat folded down. I think it was 8, and one of those was 5'10", 250#. The things college students will do to get to the mall when only one of them has a car.

Two of my best friends from high school had gone into the Army instead of going on to college. When they came home on leave each had bought a new car... a Mazda RX-7 and a Pontiac Fiero. We'd meet up on the weekends occasionally and cruise in our "sports cars." Never failed to get the attention of someone... usually a cop, but we were smart enough to not do anything stupid... at least while being watched.

This was the car I...

...learned that you could start a manual with only a hill and a quick foot off the clutch and onto the gas. Especially handy when your alternator has died and you need to get home... 80 miles away.

...first had sex in... while parked and while driving my only speeding tickets in

...nearly killed myself in by paying more attention to my girlfriend than my driving, but at least we didn't actually hit any of those cars as we merged into the freeway blind.

...spent hours and hours working on because I couldn't afford a mechanic for anything but the most difficult work.

My little Monza was a faithful servant for 5 years... then came the first car I bought myself, an '87 Dodge Daytona Pacifica with a 4-cylinder turbo. I'll save that one for another blog though.

What was your first car? What exciting things happened to you in that ride?

My first car was a battered Buick Century, 1980 I think. I was 23 and it was 1997. So it was a POS to begin with. It had no rear bumper. The heater didn't work (which sucks in an Iowa winter), the brakes were shot, and it fogged up constantly from the inside when it was cold out so you had to drive with the windows cracked and a scraper handy and bundled up in blankets. Such a wonderful car.

But one thing it did have was nice wide bench seats. I used to make out with the fuck buddy in the local cemetary in that car. We'd fool around in the car, I'd give him head. Then we'd race home to fuck like rabbits. I loved that POS car. It was so fun.

A 66 Chevy Malibu. It was beat up and only cost $500 but my dad and his friend did the body work and painted it turquouise blue (at my request). Everyone knew that was my car because it was so different. I'd have people stop me in the dorm and say "You left your overhead light on last night".

When I worked at IHOP my boss traded me the opportunity to drive the car in exchange for me not having to clean up puke in the bathroom. That's about the only interesting story I can think of. Oh and it stalled every time it rained because it would get water in the distributor cap.

It broke down too much so I traded my dad the chevelle for a 79 Cutlass. He eventually sent the chevelle to his friend's pasture for storage where it eventually rusted out and now its in a junk yard in Mayberry Arkansas.

All thru high school I drove my moms toyota corolla. I think she paid about 3K for it. Brand spanking new.
That car went places I might not even take my jeep.
Reclining bucket seats, me on top

The first car I bought new was a Yugo
Paid about the same price for it

Katey, a 57 Chevy? OMFG.

Too bad your daddy let that '66 go to the junk heap, HG... that could have been a hot ride.

Glad to see you survived the Yugo, JayR (shudder)

Well I drove a truck, a good ole half ton chevy.

If I said what I have done in/with my truck you would not believe me anyways.. But creativity is a good trait to have...

A lovely orange VW Rabbit. Had the gate guards on base inform me that I was dragging a barb-wire fence (I think it was the whole fence!) under my car, once. That car was driven to hell and back. Toward the end the only thing I could rely on was all week it would get me to school and work....but every weekend it would just quit. Guess the damn thing felt a need for relaxing weekends. The last straw was when I exited the highway (just gone from 60-ish to about 30 mph) suddenly a thud or thump...and I saw my WHEEL (not tire) heading out to the pasture on my right. Dad had no qualms about helping me into a new car.

Yagotta get it soft and wet so we can kick/stick it
