What a Day

As is my usual habit I went down to the local convenience store for my morning cup of coffe (it's pretty good stuff - they grind their own beans). The lady opening the store has become a good friend and I usually chat with her awhile. When I arrived today there was a car of young men at one of the gas pumps. Two seemed to be arguing rather vigorously and started pushing and getting in each others faces while yelling. They did this for awhile across the parking lot. The clerk decided to call the police as she wasn't sure what was going on. The young men got back into their car, drove around the parking lot several times and then left. Well the police caught up to them a few blocks down the road and questioned them. Their story was they had been driving all night and they were just play fighting. The police were going to let them go with a warning to just tone it down but one decided to start mouthing off. He was told to sit in the car and shut the door while the plice talked with one of them. He refused and eventually got out of the car. He was told to get back into the car or he would be arrested for failing to obey a police officer. He again refused and advanced on one of the officers. Big mistake. He was told he was under arrest and as he kept advancing they attempted to do the usual routine and handcuff him. He started fighting and they had to wrestle him to the ground to subdue him. Drunk, high who knows. All he had to do was sit there and be quiet and he'd have been on his way in a matter of minutes. I talked with the police and gave a statement as to what I had witnessed. Who knows I may now have to testify if it goes to court. Will I? Of course. I can only say what I saw and heard. To me it's just another example of a lack of respect.
