...It is rare to be born a human being.
The number of those endowed with human life is as small as the amount of earth one can place on a fingernail.
Life as a human being is hard to sustain - as hard as it is for the dew to remain on the grass.
But it is better to live a single day with honor than to live to 120 and die in disgrace.
Live so that all the people ... 'in your land' will say in your praise that 'you' are diligent in the service of 'your lord' (your work), in the service of your 'faith/credo'... (values), and in your concerning for other people.

More valuable than treasure in a store-house (property) are the treasures of the body (health and beuty), and the treasures of the heart (sentiments, intellect and the spirit) are the most valuable of all. From the time you read this letter on, strive to accumulate the treasures of the heart!
... The purpose of 'our' appearance in this world (in this part of the universe), ...... lies in 'our' behavior as human beings.
The wise may be called human, but the thoughtless are no more than animals.

NICHIREN [The eleventh day of the nine month in the third year of Kenji, cyclical sign hinoto-ushi]

{please note that words between brackets following words between '...' are a slight alteration from the original Japanese ancient text, in order to be more clear in content in modern terms... meanings have however not be altered ~ I have tried to keep as faithful as possible to the original text/extract of this Gosho/letter}

be well x
