Ask for what you want

I had a good friend visit me today. He taught a very valuable lesson once. Ask for what you want ‒ be direct and don’t hold back. I know it sounds really obvious but, a lot of people (myself included) don’t give ourselves the permission to just ask for what we want.

Here’s an example of what I mean; we were in a European country where they spoke no English and we didn’t know any of their language. My buddy knows exactly what he wants. I’m with him ‒ he had a good idea but, how do we get what we want? We don’t know our way around; don’t know the language, nothing. He tells me “Don’t worry, I’ve done this before”. OK, sure, lead the way. We get into a cab, and the cabbie says something ‒ I’ll never know what, but my friend lets him finish and then simply says, “Take me to pussy”. (I’m not making this up, this really happened) The cabbie said something else unintelligible to us and my friend just calmly repeated himself. The cabbie repeats the word pussy to us and then says “ok, I take you”. (This has worked in several countries, three out of five cabbies will understand the word pussy all by itself, and the other couple needs some appropriate hand gestures)

Seeing how simple that was definitely changed how I thought of the world.

All you have to do is ask.

Being the blunt and bold redhead that I am, I can tell you this works for more than just a piece of ass! I've always been the type to say what's on my mind and go after what I want. As they say, "you catch more bees with honey," the sweet approach often works best, but if not just going for the gusto is the next option! I've found that being true and honest with yourself and knowing what your wants and needs are and not being afraid to go after those wants and needs will usually pay off in all aspects of life. I strongly agree with you, "just ask" any language!
