Christmas Eve's Past

It was about this time on Christmas Eve's past that we would throw a blanket on the floor in front of the fireplace. The aroma of the nearby tree filled the air, soft, muted lights twinkled and dance. Over a bottle of wine, we laid in each others arms and reflected. We remembered the year gone by. The highs, the lows, family, friends. We shared our wishes and hopes for the coming year. We shared our dreams for the future.

The smell of your hair, the softness of your skin, your smiles, your laughter. There was no need for words. The warmth of you filled the air. The quiet, knowing that the morning would bring family and friends, children, pets. A home full of love and happiness and cheer. The all day cooking, people coming and going. At times not being able to hear above all the noise. But all it ever took was just a smile from you.
