Body Image

I usually keep on the TV as background noise, and lately there have been tons of talk shows relating to body image, distorted body image, size, etc.

Over the past few years I have lost a significant amount of weight. But it's weird, no matter how many goals you set for yourself, once you reach them you always set a new one. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing- I think we should always be trying to improve ourselves. Sadly, we tend to focus our attention on the outside, which can only accomplish so much.

I'm decently thin- between a size 6 and 8, which I would have never thought I could get to when I was a 16. Still, I find myself sometimes looking in the mirror going 'my god, look at that stomach, thigh, or saggy whatever', lol. You truly can never win.

What about you? What is your biggest body hang-up, or are you at the point where you are comfortable enough that you don't spend a lot of time focusing what you hate about how you look? (if so, can you teach me how? haha)

Teach....the only advice I can give you is be happy with yourself.
I am now 43, soon to be 44 and have never had a weight problem but have noticed how some body parts just do not look the same as they did a few years ago. The way I see it, I'm getting better with age, like a great bottle of Shiraz LOL.
Love yourself and to hell with what anyone else thinks. Your pic says you look mahvelous .

Hey. Unlike a lot of other people that are trying to lose weight... Im trying to gain. I am comfortable with myself, but like you said always room for improvement. Im 6'2, 180-185lbs. Would like to reach 200lbs, but me saying this right now, I might regret it later.
Anyway like Happy said... Your pics looks awesome and pretty sure your students pay a lot of attention in your class.

It's hard. I think it'll always be. I've realized a couple things in my own struggles with weight:

Aim for health: beauty is and will always be in the eye of the beholder. The only real guide of how a person should be in terms of weight is determined by your health, and even that has alot of room. Being healthy helps you sleep better, be less stressed, et cetera, et cetera. That makes you LOOK a hell of alot better being stick thin. (And in my opinion, being able to see someone's ribs through their skin is just disguisting).

Believe compliments: You live with yourself everyday. You see yourself naked every day. You're not going to notice major differences over time. People around you will. Everyone truly thinks they don't look the greatest, unless they're full of themselves. I know everyone says to do something until it makes you happy, but realistically, the people around you that you truly trust are often the ones who you want to look good to. Frankly, trust them when they tell you you do.

Don't see it as a Journey with an End: Stop thinking of yourself as a person with an 'under renovation' sign on you. When you do things that you do to make you healthy, treat them as if they're normal parts of your life. If you go for a walk twice a day, treat that as a daily ritual. In about 40 days, it will become a part of your nature. You're never going to be fully happy with the way that you are fully at any point in your life - at least be happy with the way you're going.

Anyway, my $0.02. And I've never understood womens' sizes. I have a few sisters, and I still don't get it. With men, it's easy - you have your measurement in inches. That's your size. Why does it have to be so complex for women?!?
