Some more differences.....

So I was talking a while back about the differences of what I grew up with back in the Caribbean and what I see going on now as an adult. The one thing that sticks out is people's interpretation of what is considered acceptable.

I was cashing a check at a check cashing place in town and was doing the paperwork to send some money at the same time. This guy walks in as the next customer and instead of staying behind me to give me my privacy, the idiot comes right up next to me onth ecountertop where I was doing my transaction. so I look at him and I tell him "That's kind of close buddy. Mind if you step back a bit until I'm done ?" He then looks at me as if I have a problem. I mean, was I wrong ?

Another thing I can't stand is the fact that people walk into a place of business and immediate direct questions to the receptionist without even saying "Good morning". that riles me.

Point three, kids who think they can jump into a conversation that two adults are having.

Point four, parents who LET their kids jump into the conversation and not correct them. When I was growing up you knew that when adults were talking you didn't give your two cents.

Oh and the first thing that hit me as strange when I moved here is the way everyone calls you by your first name even if they just met you. Back home that was a big NO NO. you only called people who were in your social circle by their first name. heck I went to a Catholic Elementary school (one that I lovingly refer to as 'Jail") and for five years no one called anyone anything but by their last name.

But six years later I've mellowed out a bit. I still think kids should know when to stay out of the conversation but I let strangers call me by my first name. I keep my distance in the line and turn my back on those who don't extend me the same courtesy. I still think parents need to have a stronger control of what their kids do especially at Walmart and HEB.

Did I just say I have mellowed out...? Hmm maybe not as much as I thought I did.

Okay you can put your two cents in now.
