...days in between....

.....to those of us...obsessed...
I guess...
these are the days...
in between.

Aug. 1st and Aug. 9th....
when Jerry Garcia was born
and when he died.
The eight ( or nine) days of Jerry....

They're dedicating an amphitheatre in his name
in his old neighborhood
this week.....

....."10 years ago
I walked these streets,
my dreams were wide and tall....."

an incredible personna...
I was fortunate enough to witness...

He thread a string of a melody,
and I followed.
He mostly played that "next" note
that you...
hear...here...
on a tour,
or journey,
and then...
might miss.......

and then there were the nights,
when the notes rose up,
and as the swell enveloped me
I anticipated more....
and though not a master
I sensed where they'd go....
the fluid math
resonating, and detonating...
exploding motion toward my soul...
the spinal tap dancing
and the shuffling feet,
raising an ear to try and meet
where the rubber met the road
and where we'll be after that...
too many times, the attention span
dies down because
expectation ran
too far.............
but one night
more than a coupla times
that skip straight jumpin,
shootin star
just kept on hittin the ribbon
milkin that jar........

thinkin it disappeared...
cause it took too long,
and the direction
became reversible.....

.................but he was a cog
on the wheel....
an obvious spoke, or gear
among others that he cherished....

I doubt anyone would negate
the respect
and interest
and influence
caused by
John Cippolina........(sorry young'uns....Google it....)

And the esence, and availability of
Wally Heider's studio...
...like Sun records in Memphis...
a place for "folks" to be...
better than Memphis though
cause time had told
and the cookie jar was opened
to those at the time
with the talent.....
1970.............
CSN&Y
Jefferson Airplane
Credence Clearwater
Grateful Dead

the first five Ampeg 16 track recorders
serial numbers bearing it out
there on the table
for raucous musicians to frulick with....
why go home...............?????????

total best, totally open...
please....
play here....as long as you like

The sessions spawn there
still reside on 12" vinyls
classic memorial
constitutional excellence....

..........same year as Festival Express...huh...

anyway...........
Jerry, I miss you.
too bad, we got so commercial on ya'

you there, young'un...
hoist it up
hear it well
ignore most of the restof us
we really don't
....get it....
but someone needs to hear,
to play,
to start the sound,
so we can remember
that we're not
complete assholes.

.....sometimes when you close your eyes
you open your soul

I saw Jerry in the mid 1970's. Nice tribute lustmirror.

Speaking of commercial, he did start marketing ties if you recall...

I hope you read this cause you have blown my mind. The way you can describe an event is a true inspiration to me. I would wager that you would be an awe inspiring event at an open mic night.

What is interesting is how familiar people are with him. Keith, you refer to him as Jerry...most people do. He managed to be a personality of recognition for a generation ( or two ) and yet was never a spokesman. As for the ties, they are actually patterned after his artwork. He painted for as long as he played music.
