Loss of a Loyal Friend

I'm writing this with a heavy heart...today I had to do one of the hardest things...I had to put my 13 y/o Black lab Alex to sleep. I've had him since he was just a year old. He was truly my best friend & protecter. Weighing in @ 110 lbs, he could look at you with those velvet brown eyes & instantly give you a warm fuzzy. He's been through alot with me- been a protector of both my son & I. He loved to ride in the car, with his head hanging out, ears flopping in the wind. He even went hiking with us in the Smokies! His poor old hips gave out on him & he had a tumor growing on his front leg. He died in my arms, as the Vet gave him the shot. Isnt it amazing how these magnificent creatures sneak into your heart & soul...& stay there forever. We could learn so much from animals...they are forever loyal, give unconditional love, are always there for you & never hurt you. I miss him already.....

Someone took the time to write this in my blog its so beautifull i hope it helps you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss! I had a Saint Bernard that I had for 12 years before the neighbor poisoned her with a steak. That was the saddest day of my life to watch her lay there and foam at the mouth. She took off so she wouldn't die around us. You did what you had to do out of love for your dog. You and your son will always have the memories.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss looking. They sure do have a way of tugging at the heart strings. It's so hard when they go.

Over the years I have lost many dogs, and a few cats. Some of them I had put down, some died because of illnesses, one killed by a car, and one killed by my other dogs. There are no words that I can say to truly express how I'm sorry I am to hear about Alex. But you have to remember that Alex is now free of pain, waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, just like the poem says. (There is an official rainbow bridge website where you can leave a memorium for him...just Google it) I have left memoriums for my pets that are waiting for me there.

May God help you through this time of sorrow.

I'm so sorry darlin... I had my Dolly for 14 years.. she was a Siberian Husky.. I fed her from a bottle because her mom died shortly after she was born. She was my shadow.. my friend and protector.. it has been 4 years since she moved on.. and when I am really down.. I dream of her.. a big hug for you..

And just imagine how much you would have missed if you had not known him.

Hugs, sweetie. The unconditional love a pet gives is something special indeed! They too are souls like ourselves, as we grow to know.

warm xx

Have no doubt that Alex shared that love - I know some of how you feel and my thoughts are with you. You are a beautiful writer - and if you haven't yet - when the mood is there just write and write about Alex - it will make you weep and heal - and you may share or not.

Next best thing to perfect

Fan is right, writing about will help you heal, and Rainbow Bridge is an awesome place. I had Echo for 19 years, longer than my marrige, longer than my children have been alive, she was my best friend!

We now have two new family memebers we found at the resuce shelter, for my two boys, but in my heart Echo will still be my dog.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I can relate. I have a black lab/shepherd cross and I know the day will come that I'll have to make that same decision and have those same feelings. Big hugs!!!

I hope that you find a new pup real soon. While he cant replace Alex in your heart, he can grow up to be as great a friend.

With Tender Memories...

Some time back I had to put my precious dear friend Buffy down....
I still miss her laying here under the PC near or on my feet...
There is not a day that passes that I dont miss her running and jumping up to greet me. I took so long to take her to the vet the decision was just heart wrenching...

I am sure you felt the same for Alex...Labs are such wonderful animals

My heart felt condolences, just know that that precious soul knows your love and misses being with you as well.
Surely God knew what he was doing when he made an animal that gives unconditionally..... love happines and loyalty.
tender hugs to you looking....
