It seems like my family aren't too happy about my preference of having relationships with white men but just won't admit it because they will not want to get caught of being racially biased, so they make a lot of excuses. But, it's making my life miserable and they just don't seem to care.

Bigotry is a powerful force and when felt in the family unit, it can be very difficult to overcome. You no doubt love your parents and don't want to upset them, but at the same time they are upsetting you and that isn't right.

Don't your feelings matter? Shouldn't you be allowed to be happy with whomever you care for or love, no matter what their ethnic background is? At what point do your parents realize you are an adult, that you are entitled to love or desire anyone or any race you want, and that they really have no say in the matter?

We are often not in control of who we find attractive. There's just something about that person that strikes a chord inside and it's over. You're caught and there's no shaking loose.

I've always felt that following your heart was a good thing, so I'd stay true to yours, lonelyph. Be sure and let your parents know that you love them and appreciate the fact that they are looking out for you. Just make it clear that when it comes to who you want to be with, you are going to make that decision. Being happy isn't only their right, it is yours as well.
