Its Pouring

You know the saying... When it rains it pours. Well its been pouring. I finnaly have a few days to myself and was going to get out and have some fun when.....

It started friday when my moms car had the ac go out. Now its 97 degrees out and 100% humidity so going without ac in the car is not an option. my dad started to change out the ac parts on saturday but found that they didn't give him all the parts he needed to complete the job on saturday. On his way back to drop his work truck off and return home in his car he found that his car had a flat tire. He plugged his tire and returned home.

Now my parents live in the house right next door to me and are here more than they are there... So what is mine is threirs and what is theirs is mine. Well this morning my mom drove my van because her car wasn't done yet. She had to go up to the blood center to give blood to get it stocked up for her knee replacement surgery. She gets out of the van and smalls burnt rubber. She goes in and gives her pint of blood and comes out and the van wont start, turn over or anything. So my dad runs up there and looks at the van and finds two things... the compressor on the ac is frozen (the rubber smell) and the ignition is bad. He gets the van running by jumping off the starter and sends her to work.

Now two vehicles down.

My dad comes and gets me with his work truck. He takes me over to his corvette and tells me to go over to my moms office to get the van so I can bring it home for him to fix. He then warns me not to turn on the AC it seems that this morning it was running a little hot so he figured he was going to need to replace the radiator in a week or so.

We took my moms car to an ac place on friday to let them fix it but they wanted $1800 to fix it and $1600 if my dad bought the parts... So my dad bought the $300 worth of parts and did it himself he finished this evening.

My van was another nightmare... He went to his parts supplier and they told him they couldn't get the part. He called Dodge and they told him the ignition was $190. He called another parts place and they found one and it was $80 and he got his 10% discount. But alas it was the wrong ignition and they haven't found the right one yet so we may have to go with the one from the dealership. We haven't priced the ac parts yet it was more important to get a second vehicle running first.

Well an update... the only place to get THAT ignition is from Dodge and they want $186 for a $40 ignition. The only parts maker making that ignition is Dodge so none of the parts suppliers can get it at a better price... But in doing a comparison with other ignitions this one is a very basic ignition so if it was made by anyone else other than Dodge it would only be $40.

So we are probably just going to hook up a starter button... but we have to fix the ac first cause it uses a serpintine belt and cant be run without the ac compressor fixed.
