Heres Your Ten Million Dollars

For some reason as I tossed and turned in bed this morning trying to sleep I started to think about wealth.... Now I wasn't thinking about actually having it myself and all that comes with that. I was thinking about what the people with their wealth are doing or are going to do with it.

The first person I thought about of course was Bill Gates. You might as well start at number one... The wealthiest man in the world... I have nothing against the man... He was just a smart and lucky business man. He was given the opportunity and he had the courage to step out and grab ahold of it... Other people around at the same time and place also grabbed ahold of the opportunity and didn't fair as well as him... So what...

Now Bill Gates is a multi BILLIONAIRE. What is a person going to do with even one billion dollars? My first thought was he could give every American citizen ten million dollars and he might drop to the second richest man in the world. He would be back to the richest in a few months anyway.
My second thought was that he could put in his will that every US citizen gets X amount of money from his estate. We all know you cant take it with you so why not. At that point it does him no good. He could still leave enough for his family to live on for many many generations AND give back to the people that provided his wealth.

Just think of the boost to the economy, just think of how much the national debt would be lowered, Just think of all the new businesses that would be created, just think of all the mouths that would be fed. Then you would have to think about all the people that would waste, squander, and misuse those funds... But this post isn't about all the negatives... Its about the idealistic scenario.

My brain then turned to all the actors and athletes in this country. I looked at people like Lebron James, Derick Jeeter, and Tom Hanks. These people makes millions of dollars a year and what do they really do for society? Yes they create a few charities and try and talk "other" people into helping others. But their charities are just a tax front. They create the charities and hire their family members as administrators and themselves as president. then when they donate to it the money goes back to them as salary and a small percentage of the money they donate actually goes to the cause.

I saw a statistic the other day. It said that around six percent of the American people donate either time or money to help other Americans. Now yes we all do little things to help our friends thats not what this is about... This is about helping others better their way of life. Now this 6% is down from 8% last year, and 10% the year before, and 14% the year before that.... Do you see the trend?

Now this isn't meant to condemn anyone. It is just a thought about what these people with outrageous amounts of money could actually accomplish if they would step up and use that money the way it should be. (And maybe a little bit about making you think about where the $75 you just paid for that ticket to your favorite sports event goes).

Well I happen to know a few very generous people who are celebrity I guess you could say.
George Steinnbrenner is a man of means and often times puts his money where his mouth is.
Bill Gates does donate huge amounts of money and software to worthy causes.
My favorite though is Warrick Dunn a former football player for the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. He helps single women who might not ever have a chance to own a home of their own with down payment assistance and he also helps organize companys who contribute to furnishing the home and such.
I am a Red Cross volunteer myself and I also do speaking engagements on the subjects of child abuse and domestic violence.
I think everyone should give back for the privilege to live in a country who offers so much promise and hope to us all.

I wouldnt lose any sleep over someone else's money.

If Mr. Gates gave us all ten mil, the economy would simply adjust. (INFLATION) The value of the dollar would drop, and prices would skyrocket. And once the money is gone, life would probably become more difficult for the middle-class working family.

Rich folks are like every other category of people. Some are good, some are bad, and some are in the middle.

I find it very interesting that people like sports pro's are paid an enormous sum of money while our teachers, police and firemen fight for raises every year... We don't need more donations, we need a shift in priorities!!

If my boobs were bigger I'd be a BBW!

yep, such a little from them would go a long way, if they all sponsored like 10 families with 10k/yr. . .how much better the U.S. would be.
