Victorian hell hole.....

OK, so its fast approaching the wee small hours of the morning.
Tomorrow is minutes away and joy of joys, it will be the bank holiday that is May day.
I plan to spend the bank holiday painting and doing other DIY jobs.

I've just been looking at the BBC website which has a nice report about the auction of a house and contents that were left almost unchanged since Victorian times.
ie, no TV, boiler, microwave, electricity etc.
The wallpaper is pre-war, (Nasty)
The front of the house has the garage door that used to open to accomodate horse and trap.

A short way away from me is a house in a similar state. Unfortunately the house near me has been abandoned for many years due to the danger posed by the mine shaft below.

Personally I think the old lady would have benefitted from better social care. Shame her local social services were not able to identify and care for her better in her later years.

Don't ever give up searching for the fun in life.

amberabercrombie I agree, the modern house is often a very cheap affair.
Victorian houses were built to last, some modern houses are fit for replacement after 30 years or less.
My own home is nearly 90 years old and looks great as the architects intended. But old houses, (And new ones), only survive if the owners care for them. The woman on the BBC article had clearly never ever done any DIY in her 90+ years, not even paint or wallpaper. Such a shame.
