The little shark swims into clear waters.....

Well I'm off job hunting at the moment.
I had one of those cursed telephone interviews the other day. It was for a customer service job within a large well-known bank.
The guy who interviewed me had a certain tone in his voice. You may have heard it before in many a desperate call centre operative.
He says, "Thank you for your call"
You hear "Help, help......they've locked all the doors and set unatainable targets."
He says "Is there anything else you'd like to ask?"
You hear, "Run now while you still have the chance!!!"
and so on and so forth.......
Personally I think the telephone interview is wrong, as are interviews in general. Questions are designed to standardise applicants and rarely let the right people shine.

Why do you want this job? You need to ask?
A. I'm bored at home.
A. I'm poor and need to pay bills.
A. I like this sort of work.

Anything else is just lies.....

I'd go on but I can already feel the blood pressure soaring.

I've had many years of experience in customer service and sales roles. Personally I think its a shame we can't take recordings of our best calls to play at interview. Since most call centres record all calls these days anyway....
I know there are many ways that could blow up in your face but its so much easier than trying to remember it all for an interviewer.
The only problem is of course having to delete sensitive customer information from the calls.

Even with judicious editing after ten years of calls I'd have a back-catalogue of best-of CD's bigger than David Bowie.

Don't ever give up searching for the fun in life.
