As the world turns. I wouldn't go for the lawyer bid, unless your Mom wants it. All I can say is your Dad needs a place to live and stay out of trouble.
Again I sorry hun.

Carpe Diem

Just as one who went through a situation that was somewhat similar with my grandparents and alzhiemers--- I think the restraining order might cause a little more harm than good with your sister, but your mom ought to take charge (that is if she's able). Otherwise go through the hoops of getting court authorized legal guardianship of your dad so there is just one person making his health care decisions for him (rather than every child, grandchild, and cousin trying to do what THEY think is best). But definately a home will be good for him. Try for someplace close to your mom so visiting isn't a problem. But that will protect your mom and give your dad care he needs. People with dementia often do a lot better and have a better quality of life there where they can be taken care of! I would sit down (or call) and talk with your brother and sister and mom and get everyone on the same page so it doesn't pull your family apart because that will be the worst for your mom (who is the real victim that needs to be cared for...). Make sure no one blames her (or your dad- he has a REAL and horrible disease!) and she doesn't feel guilty about the situation cuz that can be terrible!
Anyway- I'm sure that your already knew this all! I just had to put in my 2 cents because our experience suck, especially because of the fighting between the relatives. But once one person made the decisions (who was incidently a son-in-law) and made them in the way that both grandpa and grandma's would have, seeing that all their needs were met most of the drama settled down. (Though I still wouldn't mind finding a few of my mom's half-sister's in a dark alley and fixing their problems...)
But hopes and prayers are with you... Tough situation!!!

My gosh, what a difficult situation to be in. Probably feels like the proverbial rock and a hard place. My parents are getting up there in years and between my brother, sister and myself I am afraid I will be the one that will be caring for them in their old age. In its self that is fine but I wonder if I am prepared to deal with the various forms of dementia that accompany old age. My dad kids around about it all the time saying he's going to come live with me, walk around naked and pee in the fish pond. I think getting old worries him. Good Luck and more hugs.

A restraining order on your Dad would be very demeaning to him. Is that even necessary? Would it even be effective with someone who has alzheimer's? This is a medical problem and a long-term care problem, not a legal problem. Keep the lawyer's out of this family business. Work it out with your family if you can. Kat, I left a comment in the previous post. I know you will add a sense of calm and common sense to this drama when you get back home. Wishing you well, hon!

My mom had alzhiemers I can relate its a crappy deal.
Life throws you curve balls sometimes just gotta stay up at the plate no matter how many times you swing and miss.
Tomorrows always a bright sunny new day.

    Quoting katsback:
tige not a retraint for dad,hes in a nursing home, my brother was talking against my sis, for her wicked ways , lol..shes wanting to have control as a executer and he thinks shes trying to get mom out of her place too, so she doesnt have to handle any of them!
Sorry I misunderstood! That would just a drive a wedge between you kids that would create a lot of pain, tension and bad feelings. I hope it doesn't come to that for the sake of your family. Good luck, Kat!

Kat:

My mother had alzheimers near the end of her ride in life. Fortunately she had more of the physical than mental symptoms.

I know its a hard decision when you have to move them out of their home and into a facility. I'm sorry to hear its on Father's Day.

Hopefully your mother didn't suffer a serious injury. And now your father will get the type of care he needs.

Your sister.....needs to chill out.
