far from home

i want to be near the sea
i want to breathe the salty air
feel the waves crash
taste the salt on my lips
the raucous cry of the gulls carried on the wind
as i walk toward the smudge of mountains on the horizon
toes squishing in the sand
timeless
alone
contemplative

The ocean is a special place to be isn't it?

My God, valley, you write beautifully. I felt I was part of the landscape watching the seasons come and go.

I am landlocked now. No sea, no mountains, as the place I call home is thousands of miles away. I could drive to the coast from here if I wished, four or five hours perhaps, but the sea is different here in this southeastern corner of the country. The dunes and picket fences of the eastern seaboard that you speak of are not part of the rugged and dangerous beauty of craggy rock formations and bitter cold that is familiar to me.

Yet it would still comfort me.. The ebb and flow of the waves somehow echoes the beating of our heart, I think. I miss it greatly.
