I have had insomnia for roughly five and a half years.
I am exploring herbal approaches rather than going to the good old doctor to get a magic pill to make me into a zombie.

Recently though it has been getting out of hand.
Within the last week my average get-to-sleep time has been around sunrise, I sleep for a few hours, and get up for the day.
This morning, it was roughly about 7 am.

A friend of mine suggested taking some hops (the flowers) and putting them into a sock, getting them lightly wet and microwaving the concoction for a little under a minute, and to lay down and inhale the fumes from the flowers.
(She said this worked wonders. She was making it for her granddaughter, and it ended up working on them both)

I was overdosing on chamomile & valarian spiked with mugwort, passion flower and jasmine/lavender, and it worked for a while, but damn. I must have gotten a resistance to it, because it doesn't work anymore.

Does anyone out there in blogland have an issue like this and use something other than modern medication to get rid of it? (NO illegal drug suggestions. lol)
This is frustrating.
I know part of it is that sleeping alone for almost 6 years gets reeeeally boring and sad after a while. lol

.....working the graveyard shift is completly diffrent from the day shift or the 9am-5pm work nights obviously yet you can never EVER get enough sleep during the day, wake up always tired and fatigued, i get complaints from friends (the few that i have) that i sleep to much yet im way to exhausted when i am up ....yesterday i only slept 45 minutes the whole day and had to go to work that night, sometimes i complain its the heat, yet i have an A.C. blowing in the bedroom, i thought it was because its not to dark...did the foil thing over the windows and even the little strap around the eyes to block the light....none of the above i have an Imsomnia....? Maybe its just the hours i work..yet the previous blogs i write show that i have been doing it for years, so i should be use to it ! Maybe its stress !...i think the whole world would have insomnia. Insomnia, great Stephen King book, yucky situation. hmmm...

I have trouble sleeping on and off...

Hopefully someday it will get better, but me working 11pm to 7am does not help LOL.

The hops smelled wonderful, and in my opinion didn't work, but then again, I fell asleep at 2 am vs. 4 to 7 am. So it might have worked.

My next experiment is making a tea with mainly hops, valarian, mugwort & Chamomile. (I know that last one sounds funky, but Mugwort is in the Wormwood family, and wormwood is one of the main ingredients in Absinthe.) It is a relaxing herb, but not needed in great quantity.
Valarian is the herb with the extract that is used in Valium.
Chamomile is self explanitory.

Have you tried resetting your natural bodyclock by staying awake as long as you can? after three days it should reset itself(pls dont try during yellow rocket driving season)

If I could do that I would when my kids weren't around, but without help, I have been known to stay awake for days.

I might have to try that though.
Though on tonight's menu is a tea made from some flower/herbs in my personal cache.
Chamomile, Valarian, Mugwort and Hops.

I love tea...

The combination of the 4 is amazingly sweet, not needing sweeteners at all. Kinda amazed with that.

Now to see if it works. I know it is late...dammit. lol
but quarter of three is better than seven in the morning...

After a long period of stress our adrenergic system can be come dysfunctional . This is part of the sympathis nervous system . Adrenaline , from the adrenal glands , is a hormone. But adrenaline is also a neurotransmitter. Problems with the adrenal glands can cause very long extended periods of anxiety and insomnia.

Try an osteopthic medic or chiro in your search for an answer.

Have you thought about just getting a good nights sleep and worrying about it tomorrow ? That should work x
