Political Correctness

I was sitting here trying to come up with something to write about, just to get back into the habit of blogging daily. I noticed that an new response had been posted to a thread I have been monitoring in one of the Groups I belong to. The new response was an apology to the person who had started the thread for an earlier and admittedly sarcastic response that the new poster had made earlier in the thread. The thread had to do with the double standard in society between men and women who have had multiple sexual partners: men being called "studs" and women being called "sluts." While I found the apology admirable, and may have done the same thing under the circumstances, it reminded me of how conscious we have become as a society over not offending anyone. Political correctness has become the norm, with people being so careful not to say or write anything which may offend someone. Do not get me wrong. It is appropriate not to deliberately go around offending people. Being polite and courteous is something everyone should strive to do in their daily lives. It is just that in certain circles the concept of political correctness has been taken to an extreme, causing people to be hypocritical. At least on this site, people are not afraid to state their preferences, which I find refreshing.
