dope

You may have heard that a week and a half ago some
fellow named Floyd Landis won the Tour de France, one
of the most grueling sports events around. You may
have also heard that last week Landis tested positive
for testosterone, throwing the validity of the Tour in
doubt.

Instead of talking about that, let's remember back to
the beginning of the Tour. Two days before the start,
UCI (the international cycling governing body) disqualified
30+ riders from the Tour on suspision of doping, in a
huge dope sting called "operation puetro." Mind you, none
of these racers tested positive for anything, and UCI has
yet to bring forth any hard evidence that any of these
riders had doped.

Among the riders charger in puetro were Jan Ullrich
and Ivan Basso, the top two contenders for the Tour.
Their careers are over now. Ok, Ullrich wasn't racing
much beyond this year anyhow, but Basso is 27 (I think,
might be 2, and was expected to be a top rider in the
main circuit of races for the next 5 years or so. Now his
career is over, even if UCI can't provide any evidence he
doped, using what they have from operation puetro. Even
if UCI clears him of any wrong-doing, no sponsor will want
to risk the bad PR of signing Basso onto his team. The same
holds for everyone accused in puerto. None of them will
ever race in the European circuit (i.e. where the money is)
again, because no sponsor will risk signing them. Even
if they are, and have always been, completely clean.

The same sort of thing happens everywhere. Your friends
say the new guy in marketing (or whatever) is a stuck-up
jerk, so he must be. Your kid's buddies all say this or that
teacher is a hard-ass, so he's a hard-ass.

Your exercise for the day: think of another example of
premature judgement in the court of public opinion.

I should shut up but we both know I won't ! .................

How sad is it that adult people cannot form their own opinions ?

How sad is it that instead of getting to know a person for yourself you isolate yourself in a group who thinks for you ?

How sad is it to be judged inaccurately and have it stick ?

How sad is it there is a girl I know from high school that was labeled a slut and when I see her , that still plays in my mind ?

Here in blogville I have been called all types of names , and been judged .And people who never interacted with me even had an opinion , I have read some pretty harsh comments here about what people think of me and was taken aback by the sheer stupidity of people . I was sorely disappointed in a few folks . Other people display their amoeba sized intelligence so well that there would be no use in arguing .But I guess it easier to go along with the crowd than think for yourself .And then it comes down to what if I talk to the weirdo , the geek , the "different" , the "One WE Hate " what will my friends say then ?

Mango, hello and welcome.

Yeah, that's one of the examples I was talking about. It's hard
to wait to form your own opinion, sometimes impossible. It's
not right to prejudge people/things/situations using hearsay,
but I think it's human nature. Ok, swallow that bitter pill and
ask: what next? I don't know; that's probably a different post.

Is it human nature than why didn't you do that ? Why don't I do that ? Are we not human ?

Can't say about you, but I definitely do make judgements
about people and things based on what I hear. I have to
work hard to ignore those judgements and think for myself,
using what I actually observe. It's a struggle.

I guess the final word for me is simply that I don't put much faith in other peoples opinions and thought processes .

I also don't believe in proper punctuation or spelling rules ! LOL
