Traffic lines and grass fires...

Sheeze...whatta day.

Had to buy 2 new tires for the Beast...rear tires, of course. Had a claim in Lampasas, 40 miles north of Austin...did that.

Called Son1 in Brenham, 90 miles east, said traffic thru town is so clogged that he's going to ride the storm out..and it's a good thing. Last year he couldn't stay there for a weekend, now I haven't seen him since the semester started. Path of the eye is east of Houston, I suppose, he'll be fine.

I call another buddy in Bridge City..can't reach him. Call another buddy in Pasadena and he's already relocated to Atascosita.

Looked at two in Austin..I've got some 15 or so auto claims cropping up all over south central Texas and I can't get to any of them today or tomorrow. I had two claims in Bastrop, 30 miles east....interesting.

The first one was a husband/wife in the `sticks..had a trailer and the hubster was burning limbs when I drove up to look at the damaged car. As soon as he got to the driveway, the fire was out of control. I dropped my camera and stuff and ran over to try to put out the fire. It had already crossed a property line and into the neighbors' thicket. And it lit up like a roman candle.

He called the Volunteer Fire Dept and helped the wife fill water buckets for me...I'm running thru the low flames to get to the bigger shorts and running shoes. After 15 minutes the fire department shows up: one guy on a pumper truck. I get on the deck gun and we're spraying flames, but it's out of control, crossing into a pasture with cattle. Oh boy.

More firemen and trucks are there by the time the truck runs out of water..we replentish and go out again. A fireman takes my place shortly afterward. I was exhausted and filthy. And still had cars to look at. Took over an hour and it was still out of control when I drove through after the second car in that area. FunFunFun.

The wife called me later and thanked me...said no houses were damaged or animals injured during the fire. All is good.

I get a call from a blogger in Houston & we talk. She wants to get out but it's too late, so she's hunkering down and riding it out. Very sweet lady. Like her a lot. We'll need to go to Houston and spend a day... Astros game or something with her son.

Traffic all over Austin is clogged from Houston and 3rd Coasters migrating away from the hurricane. Takes an hour to drive back from Bastrop. Exhausted. Showered and fixed lemon basil pepper chicken and a bottle of Granite Blush. Blogged until midnight.

Tomorrow is another day.....and I'm not leaving the office.

hey man, i think maybe we have one big thing in common. We don't look for trouble. we don't need to, because trouble knows exactly where to find us.

Something else I see that I respect: you do what is required at the time. You don't stand around with your thumb up your ass or pass the buck. I respect that alot.
