High-speed weekend: Baseball, Airshows, Plumbing problems.

I had a great weekend...nothing better than hanging out with my youngest son and doing stuff with him...

I had made arrangements to help a friend in Houston move from one house to another and we agreed to do this Sunday morning, as she was very busy on Saturday. Son1's baseball team had a BBQ dinner in a meet-the-coaches night with a homerun derby Friday night in Brenham, 75 miles away. I left Austin late, with my younger son and was an hour late getting to Brenham. The BBQ was cold and they were out of plates (oh well...we managed..). Son1 had some good hits but didn't hit any homers.

Son2 and I left for our farm, another 70 miles away...we got in around midnight...my Dad left the place in a mess and we were up until 2am cleaning...hit the rack, got up early and back on the road to Brenham, where we had another 10am baseball game. Son2 pitched an inning and didn't do badly, but I can see that he is still careful about throwing too fast with his elbow after the operation... we talked after the game, Son2 and I went to Chili's Restaurant to eat lunch and catch the UT-Oklahoma football game, Son1 met us there for lunch and we talked and watched the game. Go Horns.....! (I live in Austin, but my heart is with the Texas A&M Aggies). I had to go to Hempstead, 30 miles away to look at a customer's damaged truck...

Son2 and I left to go back to the farm...we stopped by Texas World Speedway and caught the Houston Ferrari Club running their cars there...the cars were going about 150 mph on the straightaway and then thru a short winding track again. Very nice machines. Son2 took more photos.

We motored to Bryan and bought a lot of plumbing supplies, as the goal of the weekend was to fix the plumbing problems in the kitchen and bathroom. The house is over a hundred years old but was renovated inthe 70's and is very comfortable. The plumbing was redone at that time and needed replacement.

Son2 shot his rifles while I did the plumbing repairs..we cooked steaks, mashed potatoes and had Tecate beer..I'm a good Dad. No cheap beer for my kids...

Sunday morning we got up early, drove the 100 miles to Houston, met my friend and her (soon to be ex) boyfriend and helped her move, then left as soon as possible. There was an airshow nearby and Son2 really wanted to go, but I had plans to meet another ladyfriend in north Houston for lunch.

We ran into traffic problems getting there and the poor girl waited for 45 minutes with her 12-year-old son at a Rockfish restaurant. She actually had left, but left her number with the waitstaff and I missed her by 5 minutes. I called her (I didn't know her cell number before that point) and she came back to the restaurant. I apologized profusely, then we had lunch...great conversation. She and I have talked several times, never met before, and I was pleasantly surprised. Very attractive. Nice lady. Burned before and a little cautious....

The boys got along great...we talked her into going to the airshow, so we all piled into the truck and motored down the interstate to catch the last two hours of show. Very nice.. weather couldn't be better..had a great day together.. bought several things for the boys. Son2 took a lot of photos. We had great conversation all the way back...I gave her two of the CDs that I had in the truck of a local Austin singer/songwriter...said goodbye and Son2 & I left. We picked up more plumbing supplies and zipped backup to the farm. Great day. Great people.

Monday morning I woke up to thunder and rain. Started early on the plumbing...Son2 and I went to visit my great aunt, then hit several hardware stores, met an old friend I hadn't seen in a while, Barbara, and visited with her for a while, then did more plumbing repairs. Almost all of the problems were fixed, but I've got to replace the bathroom flooring still. Maybe next time...

We left around 2pm...motored to Brenham again (there was a Pontiac Grand Prix at a dealership there that I liked)..checked out the car, signed the papers (I'll pick it up in a couple of days), found Son1 during his afternoon workout and talked for a while, motored to Austin with Son2 and had BBQ at Rudy's to finish the day.

I dropped Son2 off at his Mom's house....it was hard to tell him goodbye...we had a great weekend together. I just love the little guy.

I zipped over to the office and checked emails and faxes...I've got another busy day tomorrow....

I've got to figure out how to get that Pontiac back to Austin....like I need another car in my life.

I just thank God you made it through the air show, those things are dangerous.

Hey saint...you're up late tonight.

My son loves airshows...this is the fourth one this year. I gave him his first flying lesson on his 15th birthday a few months ago and he took to flying like a pro.

Hey Minx...this is my quiet weekend

honestly..my workweek is paced, but usually long in order to keep myself occupied. I really enjoy going out to the farm and getting dirty. Get my mind of stupid things and onto more important matters. The air is clear. The night sky is lit up with stars. The house has so much character. It has over a hundred years of family history. We will do tractor work, burn brush, house upkeep, fence upkeep, mowing and minor repairs on any given weekend, then fix a steak dinner, drink a beer or two and talk until late. Good times.

I come back to Austin re-energized....

jim -

Mr. DCE speaks highly of Rudy's.

I guess I'll have to make it a stop on the BBQ joint tour of America I hope to make some day now that I have your endorsement, too. (Not to mention your son's.)

I'd lose better half of my body weight before I start off on that little adventure. LOL
