First Date Dismay

So, how was the date? Pretty crap to tell the truth….but I could dress it up as something pretty funny…..an amusing incident… a footnote (or anecdote) of history….another blog for my blah….

As soon as we set eyes on one another it was: no, oh no ‒ this is a no-goer….it was all too obvious…. as obvious as the forced smile on my face…..

I’m not going to disparage this woman by going into reasons for my ‘no’ about her…. (too much this and not enough that)….. because she was just being herself….as best as she could…..It’s just that even if we’d clashed eyes on one another (say - in a post office queue, while she was collecting her incapacity benefit)… there wouldn’t have been the remotest scent of attraction between us……posters on the far wall advertising saver accounts for dogs…. would seemingly, suddenly, … have become totally fascinating……

The date lasted approximately 33 minutes…. appropriately, 33 seconds would have been better…..We walked around in a circle….down a hill and up the hill….trying (without much effort) to keep a conversational flow going…….The flow went down the hill…..but couldn’t, wouldn’t, flow back up the hill…..I kept talking to her teeth…averting myself from her eyes.

We puffed to a stop. No more of this. At 33 minutes and 25 seconds…..we made our pretend excuses, we left our separate ways…..

I walked away….feeling my light snowball of hope melt to damp dismay inside….becoming rain……..

But now, now is another morning, another day. The sun is out….and once again, I’m rolling snowballs…..

Oh, I've had two of those dates. The kind of date where, you're hoping either a) your cell phone rings and you can pretend it's urgent, you must leave -OR- b) the earth just opens up and, swallows you whole.

Keep your chin up, this is a really great site

there must be a moral to that story... like anything worthwhile usually takes a bit of time and thought... or something like that anyways.

who did that image in this post? it's very nice. i love art like that. art that makes me think i could be an artist if i would only just take the time to apply myself.

Hi S_S8
It's Russian naive art...a bit like Marc Chagall....it's called Estrangement....
By the way, I'm loving your blog....
