Part One, the storm

The rain pounding hard on the roof making it hard to sleep, hearing the traffic splashing by on the road out front. Damn, I'm never going to get sleep at this rate. So I turn on the tv to see what is on, nothing good as usual. Then I hear the doorbell, what the hell, it is almost 1 in the morning. As I throw my robe on I glance out my window to see a small pick-up truck with its hazards on. Shit, I hate it when people break down in front of my place, they always are so flippin talkative. As I flick on the lights I see a smaller frame outside, back turned to the door looking out into the road. "Can I help you" I asked slightly annoyed. Then she turned, soaking wet in a hooded, half zipped sweatshirt holding back tears. "Sorry to bother you sir," she says, "but my truck died, and I need to use a phone since my cell doesn't get service here." As I look her over I can see she has about shoulder length hair, or so it seems as it clings to the side of her face, and is wearing matching sweats, which are also now soaked by the feet and knees. "Come on in, no need for you to drown out there, I'll get you my phone and towel." She is hesitant at first, but comes into the kitchen and stops, "Thank you sir, I'll be quick, and it is an 800 number so you won't be billed." I smile and let her know that it is ok, I wasn't sleeping anyways, I return with a towel and the phone and start some coffee, "I'm Jace" I say with my back to her. "Thank you Jace, I'm Amy."
