An Empty Dream of Empty Nights

Hope that all forgive my varying of subject from poem to poem, but I figured no one would want 25 posts in a row on war and politics, then 50 posts or so on romance... hence a little variety of me (as much as people may want me to continue posting my poetry collection

Anyway, ever lie awake and think of all the wrongs you have done and the what might of beens? This poem, a modification of an older piece, embodies that spirit of lack of sleep and empty thoughts.

'Emptiness'

'Hope is a waking dream.' --- Aristotle

I lie awake wanting the image to come back to me
yet knowing it will not.
If I could reach to you again
perhaps we might both forgive,
yet I know you will not.

I linger in the restless night hoping for resolution
but knowing it will not come.
If you could understand what I feel
then we might both let go,
yet I know I have not.

I lie awake, but your image fades
as I knew it would.
If I could just sleep
perhaps we shall both meet again,
yet I know we will not.

'knowing' can be so relative....

Too true. What I know can be definitely relative at times... especially in the quiet hours before dawn. Thanks for reading
