Parmenides walked thoughtfully under the archways of Elea.
The laws of the city had been written on parchment.
The laws of reason had been engraved in marble.
The work had been completed as the Goddess had instructed.
The mechanism had been set in motion, stochastic, unstoppable.
Parmenides had finally arrived at his destination, he felt certain.
Outside the harbour, when the tide was low and the sea calm
he could still discern the sail of an old sunken boat,
the last physical evidence of those who had almost reached Elea.
Parmenides was deeply troubled, though. His thoughts were burning.
The Goddess had taught him reason, inquiry, and disbelief.
He had learnt the veridical unity of WHAT IS,
the shapeless, impersonal pre-thought giving existence to being.
But if all was to be questioned would that not inevitably
include the Goddess’ statements? The Goddess herself?
If the Goddess existed in what she said, did she really exist?
Was she WHAT IS for she could not be WHAT IS NOT?
Had the Goddess refuted her instructions, her own existence?
Or was he indulging into an endless, un-resolvable cycle,
the topological conundrum of a one-sided ribbon?
Had it all been a dream, an illusion to be awaken from?
The pain and agony that had spurred him to his last journey
demanded, now, a never-ending continuation in his mind.
If no divine reason existed, then his own - perhaps limited - reason
would rule supreme over his life and the land he walked upon.
Resolute and inquisitive he walked and searched again.
This lesson could not be unlearnt; thinking could not be shed.
His feet light and steady, Parmenides left Elea once more
to journey the Earth and the stars, forever to continue
seeking comprehension, approaching the Universe in his own terms.
If not his mind who or what else could do this?

This is the last part of the series
that started with "Veridical Unity"
and continued with "Parmenides'
New Journey" and "Child of Doubt".

Thank you waggy. The medical condition turned out to be
a false alarm. It got me a little concerned for a while
and I lost a few days of creativity but this is natural.
One has to be accustomed to one's mortality.

Knowledge gleaned by the philosophers has slain the gods. Leave the moebius strip and spread your wings.

Well said, interested.
