A Few of My Favoirite Things....

Sometimes when things are feeling a bit negative in my life it is good for me to remember that good abounds and I am a long way from where I used to be. So, in no particular order...here are a few of my favorite things, (Julie Andrews anyone??)

1. Big huge enveloping hugs from someone who cares about me. My son is really good at these, though sometimes I fear he's going to break all my bones with the intensity of his hugs.

2. Old, thick quilts that my grandmother's made. Not only for the warmth and comfort they provide, but there's just something really cool about laying under something that was lovingly made by hands that used to touch my face with gentleness. It's kind of like having a permanent connection to all the women in my family that came before me, and strangely enough it brings me soul deep comfort.

3. Wet sloppy kisses from Maggie, (I can't believe I'm saying that...), and sweet little dry kisses from Ava. It's especially great when I'm feeling a little down and she's cuddled up next to me just looking at me with those all knowing big brown eyes. Then..outa no where comes that big sloppy tongue and bam...I've been reminded that somebody loves me unconditionally.

4. Summer Sunshine. I long to lay my body down on the sand that's been kissed by the sun until the warmth just rises up through every pore of my body and lulls me into that beautiful place between sleep and wakefulness where I can hear the waves crashing into the shore in a steady comforting pattern and the children's laughter and noise of the seagulls are somehow muted to a soft gentle noise and the sun throws down sweet waves of liquid heat to caress my body like a lover with patient hands drawing me ever nearer to sweet, sweet surrender. Yes. I long for summer. **big sigh**

5. A surprise phone call at 2am from my daughter because she just wants to tell me she loves me and, "oh damn....it's only 11pm here Mom", soft giggle, "I keep forgetting the time difference." Time really doesn't matter when someone wants to shower you with love, or when someone misses you and just needs to hear your voice.

6. Honey. Because honey is so good for you in so many ways. If you take a couple of tablespoons at night before you go to bed it'll help you sleep. If you add 1/4 cup honey with 1 tbs of olive into your bath it'll make your skin and hair softer than a newborn baby's. And...is there really anything more delicious, (with the exception of chocolate of course), than licking honey off of someones body one little lick at the time?

7. The lazy exploration of someone through kisses. Have you noticed that kissing is underrated by so many people. You can tell a lot about a person in just a very few minutes by the way they kiss you. I love kissing, soft little kisses on my face, on my neck or on my forehead that make me feel cherished. Passion filled kisses that go deep and long and make me ache to just get a little bit closer. Kisses from a loved one when my heart has been bruised, or just kisses from a friend because it's good to see me.

8. Staying up late on a Friday night just because I CAN, and knowing that it will appease the little rebel soul in me that has to go to bed at a decent hour all through the week. Followed closely by sleeping in as late as I WANT to on Saturday because dammit...that's what Saturday's are for.

9. Snooze button's on my alarm clock. Enough said.

10. Followed closely by my dear friend who calls every morning at a certain time to make sure I haven't slept through my alarm AGAIN, thereby helping to keep me gainfully employed. Some of us are just not "morning" people and need a little help from our friends.

11. My on-line friends in the neighborhood. Mr. Rogers would be soooo proud. Friendship is all about listening to each other, comforting each other, laughing with each other and sometimes crying with each other. If you haven't found that here - then you're just not looking. Thank you all for being my "Friend".

That's just a little peek into my favorite things, and see, I feel better all ready. The negativity has vanished and I'm ready to step out the door and have a fantastic Tuesday. Well...after I go back to bed and snuggle under all those quilts for just a few more minutes....(giggle)

My grandma made quilts. I make quilts. Most of the ones I've made have been given to family or friends. I always tell them if I can't be there to give you a hug then you can wrap yourself in one I made.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Wow...Thank you to all my new "neighbors" for stopping by - I feel very warm and fuzzy inside from your presence.

Frangi - You really must try the bath mixture. It feels sooo good and makes your skin just pure silk. Smells good too. Hit the button for you? No problem....it'd be my greatest delight. (giggle)

Crazygurl - Thank you so much for stopping by - don't be a stranger - there's cold sweet tea in the fridge and chocolate to munch on. Pull up a chair and sit for a spell.

Sorceror - Not a bad combination if I must say so myself. Hmmm.mmmm

Carress - It's wonderful isn't? I have one that my Mom made for me & my sister with scraps from clothes worn by our maternal tree as far back as a great, great grandmother. I keep it hanging above my bed and it's so cool to just look up there and see pieces from my Mom, my sister, me and even my daughter. Even though we're all miles away from each other I am instantly transported in the warmness of their combined love.

Dasher - I'm so GLAD that I made you smile today. It's a good thing. You know...I keep telling my boss that I'd be a much better employee at, say, 10:30 or 11:00 as opposed to 7:30. Who made that rule anyway??? Bet is was some freaky morning person....

Fiver - I'm so glad you have that - I'm so glad you have something to just wrap around you and smother you with love. It really is the simple things that make us happy. Hmmm?

Asscrompn - Yes...#4...definitely one of my favorites. How many days til spring??? And...you too have a friend such as mine? What would we do without those very responible people? (giggle)

MyReallover - THANKS! And I LOVE your picture.

Daph - So I'm sure you know that the best part of making quilts is when you're sitting around the frame sewing those teeny tiny stitches and listening to the ladies talk about life. I used to sit under the quilt when I was little, before I was old enough to be trusted with the needle and thread and just listen. Your friends and family are blessed indeed to have your hugs wrapped around them. Are you going to make one for Baby?

So we get to stay up ALL NIGHT on Friday to take a sunrise (or midnight, I'm easy) stroll on the beach ... THEN sleep in on Saturday; right???

And I love, love, love honey ... and honey dust.

This is my blog - Comes With Warning Labels. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

Door bells and sleigh bells
And schnitzel with noodles

These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winter that melts into spring
These are a few of my favorite things

When the bee stings

Safira... Well of course. Personally, I'd perfer the midnight stroll...but if you're a morning person I'll do my best to do a sunrise. (How's that for friendship????)

Curious...And why are morning people sooo damnn PERKY. You don't see me waking people up at 2am all Perky trying to convince then that it's a good time to be awake...right??? One day, when the world tilts the other way on it's axis...WE...the night people will be in charge.....(evil morning laughter...)

Michael - OH. How nice to be serenaded in my blog. I just feel soooo special. (Can't believe you knew the words to that song...lol)

"Wet sloppy kisses from Maggie, (I can't believe I'm saying that...)," I can! Buddy will often pin me down when I'm on my back on my bed...both of his paws on each shoulder and the licks begin! I giggle like I'm 14...and he giggles and all the worries of the day disappear! {=} (licks)

Pixie, One of my personal favorites...warm underwear right out of the dryer on a cold winter morning! For that matter, any item of clothing right out of the dryer, but especially the underwear!

Tills...Yes...giggling with your puppy is definitley the best way to get rid of the blahs. I love to see Maggie smile.

Muscles - Yes...highly underated huh?

Hink...omg. You're so right. That's a great feeling.

OldMan - AWWWWW...I'm so sorry. I had to put down 2 of mine within 6 months of each other. Maggie and I both went into mourning.
