In the Presence of Greatness

It's very, very rare but occasionally you truly find yourself in the presence of greatness.
I think that is were the feeling or emotion of envy comes to play, you know that no matter what you do you will never be as good at a specific thing as those few gifted seem to be.
In this case I'm talking about musicians, people that just seem to be born with a specific knowledge or talent of how to play an instrument so well, that it moves you like nothing else ever has.
People like Slash of Guns and Roses, Eric Clapton, Santana, Ann Heart (let us not forget the ladies), just a short list of the short greats but you get the idea.
Some people envy drummers or piano players, or whatever.
Some people envy models, though why they do I'll never really know, because years from now they will no longer look as beautiful as they do now, so beauty is a short-term thing.
It's true geniuses like those listed above that I envy, those that can make their instruments literally speak, that can move your soul and bring out emotions with just a few notes. That is a forever kind of thing, that is to truly be envied.

thats a good list of 'greatness' and i agree with them completely, short as it is.
There is something very calming and soothing about sitting back, closing your eyes and listening to someone who pours every fiber of their being into their music, no matter how loud or agressive it might be.

I agree with your list but if you don't want to forget the ladies let's add Bonnie Raitt. I've always loved music, as a child I used to put on some albums(now I'm dating myself), the head phones and lay on the living room floor of my parents house and listen for hours. I always had a thing for guitarists, Roy Buchanan, Leslie West, Robin Trower.... Damn I miss those day's.

Frump- I agree completely, you can't help but think to yourself, people that can do that, that pouring their soul into their music, well even if they try to be bad asses or whatever they can't be all bad.

1Sir- yep, same thing I do, head phones on (I already got a noise ordinance call), volume cranked and just tune out everything in the world except the music.
