Suggestion for Society II

Here is another suggestion for the masses. This one is one I came up with years ago too while attending inane classes in college. I thought it was a great idea and to this day still think this is one of those ideas that can really streamline the college experience and the employment avenues for those select few people who are as frustrated with higher education as I am.

A Degree of Common Sense

In my sometime cynical view of the world I think that there are more than a few people that are drifting through life in neutral. I do not care if these people are educated, not educated or whatever, they seem to be just going about life without a clue. In the work world and academia you find that there are people with a lot of education and no common sense. They tend to get whatever they want in terms of jobs or positions and it may seem that they do not know what they are doing. Then there are people like you average office manager who knows everything that is going on, keeps everything flowing and has the common sense to make decisions that are just as good (or better) than the professional she is working for. Wouldn’t it be nice if these users of common sense were recognized for the god given sense they have?

Well, here is how a Degree of Common Sense works. As you attend school, your instructors will note on your record that you have a “degree of common sense”. This means that you are thinking and not just drifting through life. You know how to solve problems without being a pest and having to ask how to do everything. You read a manual from time to time. You help where you can without being asked. Generally you just display that certain something that shows you have “a degree of common sense”. (BTW, the marks you are give showing you have “a degree of common sense”, ADCS from here on, can only be given by professor or teacher with ADCS.)

Whenever you reach a level of ADCS you are immediately granted a PhD ADCS.

So what does this get you. Well in practice it should be recognized that you are a thinker. When applying for a job for example, if you want a particular job the HR department should just give it to you. Why? Because if you applied for the job you know you can handle it because you have ADCS. Logical right?

I am sure we all can see the advantage of an ADCS degree right? And for those rare individuals who gain one, the world should be their oyster.

wow, what a great idea, I cannot tell you the amount of intelligent people I know or have known, that do not have a lick of common sense. I think you are right, it could be taught. And Lord knows, many many people could use it.

I think I would prefer the degree in common sense over any other. I work with people who are some of the most intelligent people I have ever met, but lack any common sense. Now they are the ones that can drive someone crazy...and usually do
