Mirror, mirror . . .

Mirror, mirror on the wall . . . I am my mother after all

I woke up this mornig with some regret. We went shopping yesterday. The weather here is terrible, so we took off for the mall. My son is at a stage in his life where he's trying to find himself. I know this, but knowing and accepting it are two different things. Out of my two children he is much like me. He doesn't look like me, but he has inherited my personality. Probably the reason why we butt heads so often. He has decided one of his many goals in life is to play the guitar. A couple weekends ago, we picked him up an acoustic guitar from the flea market. He has been messing around with it every day since. So on this shopping trip he wants to hit the music store. He heads to the electric guitars right off the bat. I head to the acoustic ones. We explain to the salesman that we have a wannabe musician. He chooses to reinforce my theory that acoustic is the right place to start. I know my son is screaming inside. We find a great deal on an acoustic. He makes his way to eye the electric ones. His group of choice is ACDC lately. I look at all the song books they have, find the one that I want. He of course reinforces that they are songs he's never heard of. I can't help but reinforce that they are great songs that I want him to learn. Eric Clapton, Eagles, Beatles. I'm working it with him, but he's a smart one. In the end he works me too. He agrees to my choice and goes for the "great deal", and adds "I'll do it, but only if you learn too." I know I only have a few months of what I consider good music left in this house. (No offense to ACDC lovers, I will rock it out with them too from time to time.) His birthday will come soon. He's smart enough to know that he'll get the electric one then. It also helps that it's Mother's Day too.
Happy Mother's Day.

I know there is a voice saying G-rated again. In an attempt to quiet it I answer with "I'm a work in progress, Stay tuned."

I would be happy to offer you some free guitar lessons... it is a wonderful hobby... even better if your learn together and have someone to play with. Yeah... and this was definitely "G".

Good luck with the budding guitarist. I have one already a few years down the road. Actually, he's a bass player. He messes around with an old 3/4 size acoustical occasionally but he plays bass jazz guitar in the school band and also the upright bass. He does like the harvy metal types like Metallica, Led Zepplin, etc but we are fortuante that he's quite balanced in his tastes as he collects Clapton, the Beatles, a variety of jazz and enjoys nearly every type of music.

P.S. Happy Mother's day

It was very nice to see this wonderful, sweet and caring "mothering"
side. It is yet another part of what makes you the special lady that you are and the extraordinary woman that you are becoming. Your children are fortunate to have a mother like you. Happy Mother's Day.
