Mis-use of 'Friends With Benefits'

I don't think most people have the same understanding of 'friends with benefits' as I do. friend is a term distinct from 'aquaintance'. An aquaintance is someone you know a bit about, who knows a bit about you. A friend is someone you _care_ about, and who care's about you. I'd say you have to have laughed together _and_ cried together before you can call someone a friend. I've had friends with benefits, and it's really nice, but I think the term I would use for what people here are calling 'friends with benefits' is 'fuck buddies' or 'play pals' - A much more casual conotation. Having had the real thing, I don't want to refer to the cheap immitation by the same name.

Not that being 'fuck buddies' is a bad thing! Let's just not confuse one for the other!

Lol... I agree... but, I DO want life long loving friends with benefits... not playpals or fuck buddies... I want a friend I can go to a movie with, dinner with... and bed with!!!

yes all too often.....but I don't call them FWB anyway they are my FB's or playmates although quite a few of them do graduate to FWB but we don't have the added social interaction outside play to justify the title.....it is just the nature of our relationship is enriched

Ladies and Gent. The term FWB can be perceived in many positive and negative ways. I think the hardest part of a FWB type of relationship is the boundaries in which you have to operate in. "Fuck Buddies" on the other hand seems a little too harsh. "PlayPals being the nicer way of saying it.

The whole idea of sex and companionship with out the regular pitfalls is so hard to accomplish unless its with a cheating wife or husband. I have twice had this type of relationship. Once with relatively decent success. Only because the guidlines were detailed out at the begining and neither of us had any other expectations. In my opinion if you are both on the same page and continue to communicate then FWB, FB or PP relationship can work just fine. You have to be honest and to the point.
