So most who read the post before this one will know I did not get to go I settled for at least going outside and enjoying the weather...imagine that not a storm cloud in site, yet the weather channel is still spouting about huge, possibly severe storms coming our way!

Anyhow, I brought a book outside to immerse myself in, as I try to soak in a few of the suns rays, I just sit there reading and minding my own business as usual, one of my neighbors comes up on his bike, he says Hi, so, I, the ever so polite one, say Hi back to him...I know he is a neighbor as I have seen him numerous times in the stairwell, I do not know his name, nor know which apartment is his, and he is bout 50ish...we always say Hi and Hi backs and then carry on with our day...

So tonight he comes up and politely asks what book I am reading...I tell him, he then tells me what he likes to read...blah blah blah...he then departs and eventually come inside to get back to these wonderful blogs...

I wasn't back in here long when I hear a knock on my door...anyone who comes to see me is out of town or would have called in advance to even see if I was home as I am a flighty type and am always on the go somewhere or another...So I answered my door cautiously, I hate strangers, I have a paranoia about me so by the time I get to the door I am soaked in fear due to how my mind I cracked the door like a quarter of an inch open...I could smell the booze before I even saw who was at my door...

It was HIM, this guy that I every once in a while say Hi to, I had no idea he even knew what apartment was mine! I certainly do not know which one is his or even his name! I a clipped short tone I said I had company and shut the door in his face! Good lord I know I handled that all wrong but I had no idea what to say to him as he had been drinking and I did not want to do anything to provoke anger or something in him...

I wish I weren't such a paranoid person but I always think the worse case scenarios when this kind of stuff you think I did ok? I know for sure if anymore of these kinds of things happen I will have to do something about it...I have lived here in relatively quiet peacefullness for over a year, and was very unprepared for some, more or less stranger to be coming and knocking on my door.

It really kind of pisses me off that someone I hardly know thinks they have the right to invade MY space, just from a simple Hi, and a quick exchange on book styles...I know I gave no outward signals for this man to misinterpret and to think of as a "Hey come on down and knock on my door" ...I just do not do that kind of thing, I hate strangers, well maybe not hate, but I dislike em cause they set off unknown fears inside of me.

I know what you mean, if i say hello back to people i end up getting their life story. They feel compelled to open their hearts to me. Ive always had this since i was about 15.

My pet hate is door to door canvassers who try to get you to change your utility service provider, or to buy new windows & doors etc etc.

A little while ago i kept a small bowl of flour in the kitchen so if anyone knocked at the front door i dip my hands in flour a bit then answer & say 'oh sorry i thought you was my visitors, im too busy sorry'. Worked a treat. Except they started to come back the next day.

Phoenix...good plan until, like you stated, they started to come back a different day....I happen to have a lot of mental disabilities, one of them is a panic disorder, where most anything can cause me to feel terror at any moment in time, thats why I dislike strangers so much...if I am not in control of a/the situation I will more than likely suffer a panic attack...and they suck! Thats why I try to avoid such predicaments...

P.S. for the religous folks who like to talk to me of God, I put up a sign that says "Absolutely no visits or solicitation allowed by any and all religions" This works fantastically, usually when any door to door person comes they read that and choose not to knock on my door...

Coming to your door drunk?!?!?

I hope you let him know that at least THAT part of the scene was totally unacceptable.

That's completely ignoring the uninvited invasion of your space.

Some people...
