Being Carded...

Being carded is a hassle to those who purchase alcohol and cigarettes. You have to go searching through your wallets/purses to drag out your id and then put it back and move along so as not to hold up the line.

I was carded yesterday, and I wasn't happy about

I go to the same gas station all the time to buy a carton of cigarettes. Most of the time, I go around the same time of day...which tends to be about 30 minutes before my husband has to go to work. Yeah...I tend to put things off until the last minute. Anyway's, there are usually 2 of three people working. An older man, in his 40's that I call BOB. An younger woman...looks to be in college I just refer to is.."Hey, girl" and a guy...late 20's....

Now...the guy in his late 20's has been working there for the last month, and I have seen him about 5 or 6 times. I have gone through his line about three of those...but never purchased cigs through him. It just so happens the others had the shorter lines on those days. But, yesterday, I asked for a carton and he just looked at me. Then he asked me for my I.D.
I was a little upset and offended because he has seen me purchase cigs in there before...and I had been carded by both of the other cashiers. So...I KNOW he KNEW that I was old enough....Bob was working that day and tried to tell him I was old enough. But...he still INSISTED he see my i.d. So..I got it out.

I started to hand it to him, and when he reached for it, I pulled away. I looked him dead in the eyes for a moment...smiled my cocky little smile I get..and said

"Are you needing my i.d. because you really don't think I am old enough to purchase cigs, or because you are too shy to ask my name and using the I.D. excuse so you can put a name to the face you would so desperately like to take to bed?"

I said all that without blinking...staring into his eyes and not backing down one inch.
He stopped and just looked at me. I continued to stare..and seeing as there was only one other customer in the store...I took my time.

Finally all could utter was "Both" and handed me my card. I smiled...and noticed he was shaking a little. So...I just said..." My name is Mandy. If you want my should just get brave and ask me." I giggled a bit, being careful not to make him think I was laughing at him...which I was...because he just stared at me...handed me my credit card and receipt and watched as I turned and headed out the door.

I know...I know...I shouldn't have given him a hard time. It was very wrong of least I know that even though I am married...I'm still a natural flirt...and bitch. LOL

P.S. Please be sure to go back to my last post and read my comment. I added a little more info as to the job I was referring to...which may help some of you see the reason behind some of the stipulations offered.

I'm a non-smoker so I say quit smoking and you'll have to deal with it less. And don't worry the twitching goes away after a few months. Or you can get white trashy and get one of those knitted cig pouches with the ID slot on the side. That way you'll always know where your ID is cause like most smokers I'm sure you always know where your smokes are.

Okay so I'm not helping. Personally my ID is always in the same spot in my wallet which is always in my front left pocket. When I go to buy Rum I get my ID out before I even get to the counter. I'm 28 and I still get people looking at me like I'm underage.

It's those embarrasing moments that you always look back on and smile on. Keep being honest and spontaneous.

I'm 36, still get carded and love every minute of it. It was a bit annoying until I turned 35, but now - to watch the faces of the girls and guys that check that id - there is no greater satisfaction.

And, LOL, I can picture his face as you confronted him.

One thing - a couple of months back, I was in a gas station and a girl walked in, asked for a pack of smokes. She didn't get carded and after she didn't get carded, she pulled a laminated card out of her pants and said "I regulate stores for selling cigarettes to minors - you're busted". The woman looked over 30 in my opinion, and I probably wouldn't have carded her myself if I was working the checkout. She took the cashiers name and walked out to write up the store. The manager on duty was pretty upset and explained that this is why they card everyone, even if they are regulars - you never know.

I just read your last post and I say take the job and make it work for the year and re-evaluate. My wife works with the disabled and she's very good at it. There are to few people like her in the world and you sound similar.

As for the clerk, I would have been tongue tied for a second and then asked for your number...when you left I would have creamed my pants...
