Survey Says..........

OK. I have been fighting with Norton AntiVirus for 2 days now. I tried to delete it yesterday and it hosed up my Outlook. I figure it was a bad uninstall and have been trying to reinstall the damn thing so I can try to delete it once again. Make sense?...ah, doesn't matter.

I'm sure that everyone here has encountered problems using the computer at some time or another. My question is this......

When fighting with your computer, would you rather be fighting with it over software issues or hardware issues?

Me?...I would much rather deal with hardware issues. Hardware is logical, period. Software can be a bit abstract. I prefer logic any day. Besides, when all else fails, hardware can be thrown out the window..LOL

Hardware, without a question, unless I wrote the software. Generally one can solve hardware problems by swapping parts until you figure out which one doesn't work. Software problems are infinitely more complex, often unreproducible, and can take up far more time.

Since I am a hardware engineer for industrial computer systems I prefer hardware problems. My most recent software problem came after I had an auto-update to my system and then many things did not work properly after. After many hours of trying I said S--T and made sure my data was backed up to my network backup drive and rebooted the computer with the HD manufacturers drive install software and told it to reformat the drive and then I reinstalled what I wanted and got rid of all those things that get on your computer that you never use. I hate it when I have to use regedit to clean up un-removed items in the registry from software that I un-installed with the un-install program.

Hardware is easier, most definitely. Just replace the part and the problem is solved. I've had software problems where the only way I could fix it was to save everything and reformat. Talk about a pain in the ass...
