RIDDLE - Where is the missing $1?

Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return to the people. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29. Where is the missing $1?

NO CHEATING!!!

The money that was to be returned was Dollars # 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. Say the bellboy took the last 2 dollars. He would have taken # 30 and 29. That would have left # 28, 27, 26 to give back. Or, you could say he gave back # 30, 29, and 18; then kept # 27 and 26 for himself.

there is no missing $1, total is $30, $25 for the room + $1 back for each one on the room($3) + $2 for the bellboy = $30

There is no missing dollar. The hotel clerk returned $5. Each man got $1 back, equaling $3. The bellboy took $2. 3+2=5. The desk clerk still has $25. 25+5=30. You can't go by the $9 they each paid for the room. You have to go by the $10 each they paid, and subtract.

So let's look at it the other way. They paid $27 for the room, the bellboy kept $2 from their original $20. 27-2=25. The amount the desk clerk has. The men still have $1 each, equalling $3. The bellhop still has the $2. 3+2 still equals 5. 5+25=30, the original amount in question.

Now, if they had paid $25 for the room originally and still tipped the bellboy $2, each man would be 33.333 cents richer. Of course, there is that fraction of a cent that will never be claimed, because 1.00/3 will always be a repeating number. Into infinity.

How clever of you. A trick of the theory of mathematics. The money is still there. 25+5=30 The bellboy kept two, gave back three. 3+2 is 5. Back to 25+5 =30. All you did is multiply 9x3=27. What for?

If the room rate is 25, why are they paying 27? Answer that?
