Others in need

Yesterday was just that until I read a blog from someone who is dealing with a situation similar to my own. Her fathers health is failing and he is in pain and not the man he once was physically. These are the realities of ageing and at some point we will all have to deal with our parents as caregivers to their needs, how we do this is the most difficult question we will ever be asked to answer.
The past five years I have prepared myself for the loss of my father not a crippling illness. Harsh as that sounds, the men in our family tend to just drop, not linger. The situation now is he is recovering and in rehab to build up his strength so he will be able to come home. The rate of progress is slow and it frustrate him, at the same time I am cleaning a house neglected for 10 years of clutter and dirt in hopes that I will finish in time for him to be able to come home when he is ready.
The choices made of late will one day haunt me, but there is no one other than me close or even willing to do this job and be there to cook and clean and see to his needs. This is my life until that time when he passes, not a choice a fact, it is my time to repay the debt of life, to be a parent to our parent and see to their needs as they did ours while we grew.
