freaks, stalkers, and wanna be harassers

Everyone who's dated a lot of people from online has encountered someone freaky. I don't post pictures online. I won't even share pictures until I've chatted a little, and even then I'm leery. This is a small area, and, well... some of you people are freaks. I learned this the hard way. I'll spare you the long horror stories and sum them up with.. once a guy who'd never been to my house emailed me my address after I told him I didn't want to see him again. Another time a woman I'd never met in person left a note on my front door. So yeah, I'm cautious.
One strange thing that happens is sometimes you get a message from someone, you chat a bit, and when you realize you don't want to pursue anything, they get angry. They lash out. Sometimes it starts with "your loss". I'd say at least 80% of the time, the guy who types that, types something abusive or insulting next.
A couple months ago I got an IM from a couple in Crescent City. They had nothing at all to say, it was one of those "what do you want to chat about" kind of chats. I lose patience with that quickly, so the chat was less than 5 minutes long. 2 weeks later, they emailed here, again. I IM'd and reminded them that we'd already talked. They had no recollection of any conversation with me. This time they abruptly stopped replying after 5 minutes of chat, then left me offline messages hours later. I removed them from my list. That was a month ago.
Today they suddenly popped up in my IM with "Yes". I replied asking them what that was for... they were like, oh, hello! it's been a long time. When I pointed out that they'd IM'd me, not the other way around, they said it was an accident, they'd hit my name by mistake. Umm.. k. Whatever, bye. Right? No. Then they go, oh, we had a new picture we wanted to share with you, but never mind now!
Yeah. Hello! They "accidently" sent me an IM, but have a pic to show me? I never asked for a pic. I'm not in the slightest way interested in the pic. I told them I wasn't interested. That's when the nuttiness started.
They wouldn't stop IMing me. I could have put them on ignore, sure. But it's a little more fun to watch them make asses out of themselves.

crazy couple 101 (10/6/2005 3: 01: 41 PM): Oh we have a very good idea who you are
me(10/6/2005 3: 01:47 PM): hahahah
me (10/6/2005 3: 01:51 PM): hahahahahahahahahah
crazy couple 101 (10/6/2005 3: 02: 01 PM): We know you very well you just have no idea who we are.

I never showed these people my picture. I never told them my first name. They don't have my phone number. Yet they want me to feel threatened by the idea that they know who I am. And people wonder why I'm so protective of my privacy!

So were they bizzaro with you too? I'm glad it's not just me... I think.
And for everyone's peace of mind... NO they don't know who I am. They're freaks, they were just trying to fuck with me.

The couple from Crescent City sends out hundreds of contacts. Met them and they are odd at best. Best to handle it as you did.
