On the subject of the last post, there was a news item on the TV last night that informed us that the US has started importing ladies clothes in their size 0 which, apparently, is UK size 4.

They then showed us the ‘stars’ and made the comment that the role models are getting ‘smaller’.
That is so fucking strange. It is a scientific fact the youth of today are taller and have more weight than previous generations so why are the people we hold up as ‘ideal’ aesthetically so fucking skinny???

A couple of the ‘celebrities’ they showed were Nicole Kidman and Posh Becks, the former beautiful but way too thin and the latter an icon of crass stupidity.

Both have had (and possibly still do) eating disorders brought about by the need to project, what they see, as ‘the image’.

The news item showed about 7 or 8 actresses/singers that were all emaciated and totally unattractive to me, as a man.

Why does the media perpetuate this myth that men find skeletons attractive and why do women buy into it?

My ex is what I would call thin and she is a UK size 8 or 10 and I have seen more meat on a horse rider’s whip.

On saying that she is naturally thin so I have no problem with that, it's the chase and anguish that some women go through to achieve a marketing mans ideal.

Ladies, do you buy into this ridiculous size pressure?

Guys, what do you think about skinny women?

As I am overweight, I would like to be smaller, but geeze, not a size 8 or less. I think my bones weigh more than that. I recently saw a commercial for a weight loss product where the woman went from a size 8, I think to a size 4. To me, that is stupid. She was perfectly fine at size 8.

I remember seeing a magazine cover just last week where a girl was reportedly starving herself just so she could look like Posh. It's all very well showing these skinny women and making it seem like they are our ideals, but how about telling people how tall they all are? Posh is 5' nothing in her bare feet, so she's bound to be "small", although there is small and then there is "Oh my god, a lettuce leaf, I can't eat that"!!"

In the same magazine there was probably another article about how chubby another starlet's thighs were... why, why, why are the media so intent in fucking with our minds like this???

I hover on around size 16/18... at one stage I was aiming for a size 14, but became rather distressed when my boobs started resembling deflated balloons... I've given up on being a 14 and would rather be that mattress you mentioned!

Love, hugs and kisses from ♥♥HH♥♥

Nowt wrong with a good mattress babe, stay comfortable with yourself, that has to be the way to go. Skinny and miserable often seem to be partners.

Nah, cant be doing with bone sticking through. Makes me fell like if i'm going to lay on top and have a good time, that i'm gunna have to strap a plank to em first to stop them from snapping in half as not exactly model body here! For those that lay there with legs spread and most of pelvis and hips showing... Cover up before you snap a hip with a guy on top.

As for the age thing in the other post, last girlfriend i had was 10 years younger than me, although a fantastic woman which i still like very much. She was so inexperienced and immature that i knew it wouldn't work out the way it should have done. She wanted to go out and get drunk all the time, i just dont see the point of pissing my hard earned cash down the drain. Would rather have a damn good meal out and a bottle or two of something before becoming totally incapable of shagging when ya get home! maybe im just getting too old at 33.

I went on Atkins {hypoglycemic anyway} and went from 250 pounds to 175, and still need to firm up stomach/abdomen and a bit of thighs...but I did it for me, for my health...and if they don't like making clothes for real sized women...bollocks to them, because other designers will...and I look GREAT in men's dress shirts anyway!

disturbing isn't it? A size 4 is equal to the average British 8 year old. Did you know that the majority of big name designers refuse to make their clothes in bigger than a size 10? that's me buggered then! One that does is Catherine Hamnet. fotogod is right about gay designers - they do prefer models with the shape of a young boy. As for Victoria Beckham, she looks so weak and lacking in energy, it is pitiful! I read somewhere that when she is hungry, she says she nibbles on frozen peas!!! the thing is, if she ever does eat normally now, her weight will balloon as her metabolism will have slowed right down to cope with such a tiny ammount of food. No amount of excercise is going to combat all those years of abuse she has put her body through, and raise it again to normal levels. The poor girl will be lucky to see the age of 50. right - i'm going for a pie now. Victoria Beckham always makes me hungry. Roobs. xxx

I dont fall prey to media pressure at all, i strive to get to what i was pre knee trouble though.

Ive nearly always been a size 12 & at 5' 8" with a small to medium frame that was ok.

I did become obsessed with working out in my early 30's & got withdrawal symptoms if i missed the gym...i ended up a size 8-10. Relatives thought i was seriously ill as i looked gaunt. Mel & Fitbloke have seen my photos of me with no arse & a bit thin.

Right now im a size 14-16 & as you know im working at toning up & trying my best to build up my quads to keep my knee in place. Its hard but im getting there.

My aim is to be a size 14. I think a size 12 at 38 will make my face look to thin.

I will not starve myself though, id rather work hard in the gym & swimming. I love my food & eat really well, i also love a good chablis or a G&T so why deny myself pleasures.

Naturally thin or naturally large makes no difference as long as the person is healthy. Its when someone becomes obsessed with how they look & denies them self a normal life to become thinner thats a problem.

To the other extreme when someone eats too much & gains so much weight it puts strain on the internal organs & joints that is also a massive problem.

Both are seen as internal anxieties & a feeling of lack of control in a persons life. So the only way they feel a part of being in control is over their food intake or lack of.

I dont have pressures on how i look. But i do feel when im in the gym i cannot get off the cross trainer until ive done no less than 50 minutes.

I burn 550 calories in that time. Then i do 45 minutes on the bike (wont do less) i burn 300 calories on the bike. Then its a circuit so again more calories are burnt off.

Am i obsessed?

I have a wardrobe full of clothes im dying to wear again but cant fit into goal is to wear those clothes before this year is out.

funintheday2006 replies on 8/8/2006 7:26 am:
Not obsessed but, you do have self worth and know who you are. IMO thats not a bad thing!!

I used to train 6 days per week 3 hours in a morning and 2 hours at night, thats obsessed!!!

I was only 8 and a half stone at the beginning of this year and a size 8. I stopped smoking because I knew that the last time I stopped I put on a load of weight. In the last five months I have gained just over a stone and I couldn't be happier about it.

Like a lot women I have been battling with my weight for many years. For me though the issue was that I saw myself as too thin. I will confess here and now that I am about to start the gym, but I am sure you will be glad to hear I only want to tighten up my nice new curves rather than lose them.

I will never be able to understand the dieters.

Bye everyone, it was a blast

I belonged to a gym briefly, and I loved it. We did work on Nautilus machines, and on cardio. They also offered other classes such as yoga, pilates and kick boxing, to name a few. Unfortunately, I had to quit as my ex didn't think he could afford it. Now I"m on my own and can't get up the motivation to do anything.

funintheday2006 replies on 8/8/2006 8:03 am:
If you loved it you really must start again even if it is only for the therapy of motivation. No one likes going to the gym to start with but it will help, really.
I would be there at least 3 hours a day if work allowed. As it is I ensure I excercise in my warehouse by lifting and bending etc as often as possible.
I'm still fat and ugly mind, just happy fat and ugly

Me daughter wot is a size 4 looked at me only this morning and said 'when i grow up i want to be just like you mummy' i said 'wot, you want to wear a lavender candlewick dressing gown and matching slippers and the have susceptibility of not being able to bend over without cracking one off? its all me illnesses you know' She said 'no i want to look serene and beautiful and carry a fookin flower everywhere with me even to the chippie and look like a model wot never gets fat and has a PhD and is witty and sexy and multi-faceted.' She is only 9 me daughter. I leaned forward of me computer chair to give her a cuddle and wouldnt u no it i shit me bloody self again. Damn. Never saw that one coming some fooker told me to eat fookin soup so it would soak into my candlewick dressing gown but i had to go shopping and ended up being ostracised at the bloody butchers on Wigan High street cos i didnt realise i had a big brown steamin stain on the back of me fookin dressing gown.

Anyway my sweet the label in my dressing gown says 'medium' i expect it is because i is a scorpio and have an affinity with spirits like me dead cousin susan wot did it and not me but i got the blame. Take care oh beautiful sexy blogger. You a good man. ~smiles~

I agree with Helga-size does matter-if you are 4'11" and size 6 you are probably equivalent in proportion to a 5'7" person size 12. And yes-the media forget to tell us the height-most of these celebs are diddy. I could never be a size 4 I dont think even if I wanted to be as I am too tall.
Its all about proportion. These skinny girls should look at some of the pin-ups from the past-Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable-great bodies, but not thin

funintheday2006 replies on 8/8/2006 8:30 pm:
Yo lace, good point 'proportion' is what it is about and being comfortable with yourself. I actually agree with fotogod on this one, models are required to look like pubescent boys to fulfill the desires of some designers. OO is that controversial?

Its sad how media can glorify or horrify so much to influence the way people look and live. I am me, I am not going to change to be a wannabe and face it who wants to look like Posh...she was a lot more attractive years ago. Now she is all bones and hair and sunglasses. Its not a healthy image. But so many woman want to look like her, like its going to magically transform their lives into football wives. And face it her husband played more than football when away.

Yo fun-thanks for replying. No its not controversial-its a good point. Its also to do with the clothes they design-most of them cannot design clothes for curvy bodies so they need flat chested stick insects to make the fabric drape well.
Designers like Betty Jackson understand a womans body, and so her clothes fit real women.

Yes- I do sense an abhorrance from some male designers for the female form.
Most celebs by the way get their clothes free from these designers- do you think they deliberately send the celebs tiny sizes so they have to get skinny to get into them???If so, they are definately resposible as fotogod says for the current fashionable anorexic look.......
