Lend me your ear...borrow someone else

Her post...

I have been traveling this week. I wasn’t excited about the prospect because it is for work. I don’t like traveling alone. I usually get to catch up on my reading which is nice (uninterrupted reading is rare for me these days). Airports and planes are weird to me–to be surrounded by so many people and know that you are isolated, alone, and anonymous in the world. There is kind of a quiet in all that noise: to move through knowing that you will see so many people that will never know you passed by their lives.

At the same time, total strangers seem drawn to start up conversations with me. My husband has said I must have one of those faces. I must because inevitably some person will share their life story with me. I am always struck by how many people seem to want to make a connection, so much so that they will empty their emotional baggage to someone entirely unknown to them. It amazes every time. I am also fascinated at how little they walk away knowing about me. Such people rarely seem to ask; it is as if the ear of a stranger is a comfort so luxurious it is a one way communication. I am rarely annoyed by it but it is always striking how alone in this busy world people sometimes seem. Either that or how much people just love to talk about themselves to the exclusion of others.

The lack of posts has been my doing. I took our laptop. I thought I would have time to do some posts. In fact I started this post before I left. No such luck. This trip had a demanding schedule. I miss my husband, my daughter, our home. I am looking forward to sex (it should be damn good), relaxation and talking to loved ones who like to listen too. Home sweet home I am on my way.

I agree and actually, thought that I was being a bit hypocritical 'cause I'm kinda doin' the same thing, emptying my baggage for the world to see. We all need outlets of some sort.
