YOUR WORD IS A LAMP TO MY FEET

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” - Psalm 119:105

YOUR WORD IS A LAMP TO MY FEET

What is probably the most important concept to draw from this passage is actually the concept of trust. We often pray that God would reveal His will for us, that He would show us the way to go, and tell us what the future holds. But what is the Psalmist saying here? "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." What does that mean? It means that instead of praying that the future will be revealed, we find that God's word reveals two things. "Your word is a lamp to my feet"- don’t ask for God to show you the entire road. His word helps us where we are now, guiding us step by step. Believe and be satisfied with the illumination that He is providing. "A light to my path"- the Bible spells out which way is the straight and narrow. By applying what we learn from Scripture to our lives, we can learn which way our life should go. By taking these two truths together, we see how to follow God's will: use His word to guide our actions now, and use His word to discern which choices are pleasing to Him.

Lord, Thank you for giving me a light to guide my steps. Help me to focus on You and not on the road ahead; give me faith to not fear the future, knowing full well that the future is in Your hands, because You are already there. In Jesus Christ’s holy name I pray, amen.
