The Drive-By

My best friend back when I lived in Los Angeles used to brag about the time she was asked for and gave a guy her phone number while they were both on the freeway (that’s the interstate or highway for the right half of the country). If you knew C, who by all standards is at the very least an 8 on a scale of 1-10, and anything about Los Angeles traffic, you would know how absurdly believable this scenario is.

I have yet to experience such an event, though with Houston traffic approaching Angelino standards, it is probably only a matter of time. There was of course that time that I had just dropped off my drunken friend at his place at 2:00 in the morning (I was the DD that night). Driving home the truck next to me was full of several Designated Driver charges all of whom got a kick out of whistling at me and asking me for my number. I don’t count this, since they were obviously wasted and probably didn’t even know what I looked like.

That said, I have had my share of (sober) experiences on the road. Driving a sedan in Houston, which is pretty much dominated by SUVs and Pick up trucks (no pun intended), often leaves you very exposed to both drivers and passengers (depending on which side they are on) who drive next to you. They are perfectly positioned to look down directly in to your car, often without you even realizing it.

Summertime is the prime viewing season because the clothing is much more revealing, even if you aren’t intending to reveal anything. I use the time in my car to help my legs catch up with the rest of me with regard to color. So when I am sitting in my car, I make sure that my skirts and shorts are pulled up as high as possible to catch what little sun happens to come in through the windows. This weekend I was at a red light when my peripheral vision caught the green pick up truck in the next lane stop slightly ahead of me then slowly roll back. I glanced over only to find the gentleman (I use the term loosely ) sitting there with his chin on his knuckles staring at my legs. When he saw me looking at him he bobbed his eyebrows up and down as if to say “is that for me, honey?” I laughed and pulled my skirt down. The light turned green and I sped off ahead of him.

Today a similar thing happened though I was actually driving while it happened. I was wearing a skirt with a front slit. I was driving slowly, as I was attempting to adjust the strap on my right sandal (one more thing to ad to my Those Crazy Women Drivers! post). This forced my skirt up a bit and my left thigh was pushed through the front slit. It was admittedly a provocative pose but I was still showing much less than I show when I am trying to get a tan. I noticed that the truck next to me had also slowed down so to keep pace with me. I turned to look, thinking that something was wrong, and the man smiled and winked at me. Again I laughed and smiled back, continuing on my merry way.

Sometimes driving in Houston can be a fun thing!

Well, guess I'm guilty. I drive in on I-45 every morning. I also drive a pickup, so therefore a little higher than some. I caught myself this morning checking out the female in the next car. Usually a Saturn, Cavalier(by the way ma'am, you are HOT), Toyota, Corvette,.. you get the drift. I also agree that this activity is more fun in the summer than the winter. I have yet to get a phone number, but have gotten a couple of waves and a smile or two. Thank God for the high gas prices. That means more will be driving those little economical cars. What a bright future for my drives to work.
