Well a gun has always been a metaphor for a phallic symbol, so holding a symbolic phallus may have gotten you going. For guys to hold this is like an extra boost to our ego in some cases not all. I admit I'm a bit of a liberal, I don't think we need AK47's in our home, but a simple handgun will do. I don't think we should hunt for sport but only for survival. The thought of heads as trophies make me sick in a way. But I would kill an animal if I'm stuck in the wilderness for days. One of my pagan ethics you can say.

AS far as Rita, if you need a good swimmer, let me know.

Guns can be highly sexual. They have handles, long shafts, and can go off with the right touch. Very phallic. And because of that, men see their gun (like their sports car) as an extension of their penis, and therefore, see themselves as "bigger" men when they have one. It makes you feel a lot more powerful. Yes, the testosterone levels shoot way up (pun intended) if a guy's packing. That may be the attraction.

Stop freaking out about Rita. She's going to be a bitch, but we've all dealt with bitches before. Anticipate, prepare, get out of their way and you will avoid getting hurt. I'm a little surprised by your fear. I've been reading your blogs and I guess I see you as an adventuress. So why your shying away from an adventure I'm not sure. I would have thought you would use Rita to your advantage. A weekend getaway, an excuse for Navy guy to come and "protect" you, ect.. I think it would be exhilerating to have sex in adverse weather conditions like a hurricane, OUTSIDE!!! The turbulent wind and rain would make for an interesting setting, an opportunity for experimentation if you will. Naked, rain drenched bodies matching the intensity of the storm In an open area of grass away from the city. Only if the storm is a TS, Cat 1 or 2 by then. Safety first. The movie "The Notebook" has a scene where the lead characters are making out in the rain. Intriguing to say the least. The consensus always says rainy days are great for sex. If you look at it from that perspective it doesn't seem so scary. Besides, Katrina(now she was a real Bitch) was a storm no one could prepare for. She was the exception not the rule. We still have to wait and see how much of a Bitch Rita will turn out to be. They're called "HER-icanes" for a reason.LOL.

as another california-to-texas transplant, i can quite relate, though i am finding some comfort here. they are more conservative here but i'm finding some good in that as well. i try to look on the positive side. at least they're not scratching out the kerry stickers some still have on their cars. (pathetic, i know but at least...)

oh and frogger you and i need to go out on the town -- check your inbox/filtered for a message from me...

Well frogger, as creative as you are and as much as you enjoy writing, you should consider writing a novel. I don't know that you have the time but if you did a page a day you could have something in less then a year. Just an idea...

If you come to Chicago I still have a safe filled with handguns, sap gloves, handcuffs and all the old tools of the trade. Your welcome to play with any or all of it safely and if your interested I can teach you basic safety such as safing or unloading semi autos and revolvers. I no longer hunt as I decided at 18 I did not enjoy killing animals I did not enjoy eating. I prefer a great steak to venison and having been a cop I can tell you we do not all support the NRA. I do believe an armed populace is important to our basic freedoms but feel the NRA is simply over the top. Now stockpile water, some MREs, batteries and cash. If it looks bad get the hell out!!!!!! My son just rode it out today in Islamorada and said it was not bad but it is getting stronger. Me I would leave by Weds.

Well, I was very glad I was able to escort you to the car and you would love the gun you held if you had the chance to fire it. I love to hit the range and keep my skills up. As for Bella, she is right...my other "gun" does feel much better in your hands. But, I would much rather have my Heckler & Koch MP5 like I used in the service..nothing like a 9mm firing at 800 rounds per min. Very accurate, but only good at close quarter situations...long range, I would have to fall back on my M16/M203...that is the M16 with the 44mm grenade launcher...talk about some power and feel...there you have it. But, since I only carry my Glock now, still feels good. Glad I was able to make you feel safe that night.

iceylikr: Ohh. I never thought of it that way. To hell with the new condo I just bought and the car that is running on it's last leg...I have potential for some great sex!

Also I changed my profile a couple of days ago so it may have been off...try again.

Bella: I hear ya!

your gypsy: Long time no hear...maybe when this storm blows over we can celebrate together.

To everyone else: thanks for the psychoanalysis...I needed it...I'm sooo confused!

Well I don't own one myself because I had one accidentally go off in a car when I was younger so needless to say I leave them alone and they leave me alone. They are a necessary evil though I don't want to be the one to bring a knife to a gunfight. But another thing is that I am a lover not a fighter and I have talked my way out of some pretty dangerous situations before. The GIFT OF GAB is also a pretty good type of self defense.

frogger1995,

Thanks for considering iceylikr's advice about Rita, and as one Navy man to another, my hat's off to bigdnearhouston's actions. semper fi do or die ooOO-RaaAA !!! ooOO-RaaAA !!!

Although firearms may be considered phalic symbols, obviously have a purpose (good and bad) as a protection device, and I suggest that you ask bigdnearhouston's advice on where to get saftey, markmanship, and tactical training if you choose to purchase a firearm for your own protection.

Do I own firearms? Yes.

Most of the good stuff has already been said, but nobody debated your opinion of the second amendment and why the founding father very wisely wrote it. It is to ensure all the other rights and amendments. Basically, the founding fathers wanted the lawmakers to be afraid of becoming tyrants. As a pinko liberal, do you really think the cronies now in charge would think twice about your rights if they weren't worried about armed revolts? Penn and Teller are fairly liberal and they did a very good show on how gun control is Bullshit.

The American mythology of guns runs deep in all of our brains, wether liberal or conservative, we all know the undeniable power once you take a weapon in your hands. To feel that pure explosive shot and recoil, is pure metaphor for orgasm.

Balanon2: I was waiting for someone to speak up. Ok back in the day there could be an argument for arms...But if the Founding Fathers (who were by all accounts very intelligent and logical men) were shown some of the things going on today they would have made it so vague and open ended? Do you really think they would see a purpose for ANY individual to own an assualt weapon? Do you think they would look at the comparable statistics on violence with guns between our country and the rest of the civilized world (who doesn't have the second amendment) and say "Gee, I think the second amendment turned out quite well". Gun Control is not bullshit, as much as the NRA would like to believe it. Can you imagine our country without it? Yes, some wack job out there would own a grenade launcher...or a tank...or a nuclear war head...Don't knock it.

First and foremost, Frogger, I respect your opinion and I don't care that you label yourself as a liberal..believe me, in Austin I have several friends that are and I love them as I do anyone. I am a conservative Libertarian and I agree with a lot of what you say for different reasons. My friends and I have some GREAT discussions and come to some clear thinking quite often. I still have one adjuster that moved to San Francisco and she calls me to complain...and it goes into a multi-hour discussion on foreign policy or Israeli security or something. Love her to death.

I think the Brit and Aussie governments are realizing more about what GunControl is all about...they've confisticated antiques firearms, match-grade rifles and the like...and their armed assault numbers went thru the roof: , assault, violent crimes, etc. The old addage about 'only outlaws will have guns' rang true.

The founding fathers didn't want an unarmed populace because they realized how dangerous it was to have a government that lorded over their constituents and became too heady with power. It has more to do with the ability to 'take back' your own government than the ability to defend yourself, although the latter is the most well-known.

Many a country went thru this cycle: Socialism became unresponsive and was overthrown..taken by military dictatorship that became corrupt..lost to a oligarchy that was too detached..turned to democratic elections that were held by unstable parties...led to socialism again. Guns were usually the first to go and the government was unchecked. People's votes weren't enough.

..and the M203 is a 40mm grenade, not a 44...sure it's a misprint. I DO like the H&K, though.

jim5131: As a liberal, I am often inclined to inherently dislike conservatives...this is because I have always found them to be either patronizing (poor little brainwashed liberal, wait until she experiences the real world) or just plain mean (go back to the blue states you terrorist-loving, America-hating bitch!). Living in Texas has obviously forced me to adjust this view and I now appreciate (though still usually disagree with) conservatives such as yourself who can state their point of view in a respectful manner without attacking below the belt.

I hate guns...and am real glad that they now banned handguns here...
for sports as well...
ok unless yu are a game keeper who the heck needs a shotgun....
I say ban the lot......

and yes people will still get hold of them...but at least it cuts down on the numbers.....

frightening.... air rifles... when I was a lad they were pretty harmless.... but now..omg.. a pump action air gun..help

by the way a hand grenade is legal as its not a firearm..duh....

off to the store to buy a Tank.........

and I bet that would have upset some had they seen it, frogger..lol
