Maybe Earl Has Something There

Yesterday turned out to be a shitty continuation of a shitty week. Despite my optimism concerning the current political climate, my week has not been great. You already learned about some of it from previous posts. Yesterday, I lost my work ID card, forgot to do an assignment I was supposed to, and slightly (though not by myself) screwed up another (as you may have guessed, my mind has already quit this place…I’m just waiting on my new job to take care of the rest). The card would have cost $20 to replace, which would REALY suck if I only had a couple of months left in that Godforsaken place.

So I actually grabbed $20 from my purse and headed ALL THE WAY ACROSS CAMPUS to get a new one…only to find out that some bureaucratic shit-for-brains decided they no longer accept cash to replace cards. They will take it to make new ones mind you…just not to replace old ones. But then that idiotic policy fit perfectly into my less than perfect week.

Then yesterday I watched one of my favorite new shows, My Name Is Earl . I, of course had to watch my taped version of it, since some evil genius at NBC decided to pit it against CSI. Anyway, the entire show is based on karma.

I must have subconsciously taken something away from that because as I was walking downstairs to get a second helping of Diet Dr. Pepper/Sugar-free Vanilla Ice Cream float, I came face-to-face with a HUGE grasshopper perched quite comfortably on my stairwell wall.

He was actually an old foe that I had completely forgotten about. You see, last week I had a package on my front door step. I picked it up and as I was placing it inside I saw Mr. Grasshopper for the first time. I screamed, dropped the package on my living room floor, and took off upstairs. I had hoped that the package had been dropped close enough to the door for him to find his way outside. When I came downstairs he was no where to be I (mistakenly) assumed all was safe. I closed the door, quite assured that my home was grotesquely-huge grasshopper free.

As you already know...I was wrong. So I had one of two options...I could find an extra large shoe to squash it with...or try somehow to get it outside where it belonged. I decided to take the altruistic route...albeit, mostly out of concern for what a giant-sized squished grasshopper would look like on my wall.

It took several spine-tingling tries (it actually jumped on me a couple of times...eeek! They have sticky legs!), but I got it outside in one piece. My neighbors might have enjoyed a rather titillating show, as I was wearing only a bra and long barely covered my bare ass...or my bare frontal patch. What can I say? I’ll be damned if I was going to walk right past it again just to run upstairs and grab a pair of pants. (not to self: keep extra pair of pants and a top downstairs from now on)

Anyway...karma must have thought my good deed was worthy since today someone informed me that my ID card had been turned in. Thank God I was prevented from buying one yesterday. Then my co-worker gave me the brilliant idea of simply sewing a new zipper on my skirt instead of buying the new ($65) one. Why didn’t I think of that...I have my own sewing machine! Tomorrow I will return it. So Frogger is now $85 dollars in the black...all thanks to a grasshopper.

If the grasshopper got to jump on you a few times I'm sure he'll try to get back in. I would, especially if I saw a giant as you said "front patch" and a barely covered ass(very nice from what I could see on your last post) Just a standard member right now but I would love to email or IM you sometimes since we're in the same city perhasp we can get a drink or something sometime. Email if you have an interest.

Frogger, have you seen the bug scene in Kong? That made me cringe, but I'm glad you don't have a splat on your wall. Not fun to clean up at all. I don't watch T.V., but a show about karma is a good idea. Putting it opposite CSI is possibly fatal though. Sorry for a shitty week, but I'm glad it's turning around.

Glad to hear that karma decided to reward you for your moment of compassion.
Hopefully that karma will continue for a little while.

Forget being the Grasshopper. I want to be that extra set of clothing downstairs waiting to be put on!

I fully understand the shitty week thing. Up until yesterday when I finally got the good news about an offer for a much better job, I have had nothing but a string of bad weeks.

Some how, I dont think my final two weeks at this old job will be so bad.

Maybe I'll find a grasshopper my way soon.

Hi Frogger,
How can a week that starts off so good turn into something you think is so bad? I went back and looked, the week started off with tulips and a meal at your favorite restaraunt. That SHOULD have been a good start I would think. But, you know, you may be right. The stock market ended on a bummer also. I wonder if the next week will be a lot better? I hope you get turned around, hate to see you having another bad week. Especially with the new job review coming up, you should be in a good place for that. Maybe the weekends rain will wash it all away.---------Luv Ya.

Grasshoppers are quite rare here in the UK, probably due to the vast quantities of peticides used by many in the past. It took me four years of organic gardening in my own garden before the insects returned. The insects don't usually make it inside.
I like the sounds they make on a hot summer's day.
More insects=better pollination=better crop of apples and other fruit.
I'm now going to spend the day haunted by the image of you in just a large sweater. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Don't ever give up searching for the fun in life.

There is a superstision that grasshoppers in the home are a sign of good luck. Or is that crickets. Cannot remember right now.

Just discovered My Name is Earl myself a few weeks ago. Very funny!!

gnr8nrg is right about the bug scene in King Kong. If you think you're grasshopper made you scream, you probably wouldn't be able to sit thru it.

p.S. The pics on your blogs just keep getting better and better.

Well Frogger,

You have indeed had a week of ups and downs, and it sounds like more downs. Take a deep breath.

Up in New England, I believe in the Boston area, they have a guy called the "Cosmic Mufffin" aka Darryl Martini. He is a little odd, but he talk on various radio stations and explains how the cosmic forces have effects on us and even from a daily point of view. I bet if you went back over this last week with his forecasts, you would find that the universe was no quite with you. I take it from your last part of the Blog, that the universe is indeed turning around for you. Interesting stuff, and entertaining.

I am not sure what really effects days or weeks in our lives, but you seem to have the right coping skills and realize enough that things have a way of working themselves out. I suppose it is called patience. You are on the right road.

Keep the faith and take that preverial breath when you need it.
