Time for a story........

Many years ago, I played on a softball team. THe team was a woman's team and we all had to usually tote our children to the practices and games. We were a great team ...one not to be reckoned with. But, to the point at hand....the children.

Our pitcher of the team had one son....her son was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest 8 year old I have been pleasured by meeting. This boy had the heart of gold to match his giving attitude. He also had Muscular Dystrophy. He walked stiff legged because of his disease. His joints did not work properly and this made him suseptible to much of the children type ridicule. The other kids made fun of his disability. With the exception of my daughter and her friend. They stuck up for this boy whenever he could not do it for himself. They made sure he felt like he belonged and to them...he did...in their heart!

After being friends with each other for a few years this boy had the chance to live out his dream of going deer hunting for the first time with his father. His parents wanted to make sure he was good to go...they wanted him to be ok with the rigors of it all. He was elated to no end. He returned home from the hunting trip, ear to ear grin because on that trip he had bagged his first ever deer. His father was so proud of him and he, himself was exhausted. He told his parents he needed to lie down to rest. They escorted him into the bedroom and helped him get ready for sleep.......

Hours later, his parents went into the bedroom to check on him.....he was gone. He had died in his sleep. His father said he had a smile on his face. The thought of him living out his most precious dream and living it out with his mentor..his father...was too much for him....he went in peace....which is the way he was destined to go...for peace was elusive to him while he was alive.

Sean.....rest in peace...you had touched so many with your strength and your pride...and know your friends miss you and think of you always.

Thank you for sharing that story. I think it really spoke to all who read it. I know the dad was thankful that he took Sean hunting with him. Too many of us dads are too busy to do things that make happy memories for our children. I was a workaholic all the time my sons were growing up, today I regreat that. I see my son taking all the time in the world with my grandson, making up for what I didn't do. I'm happy for my grandson, and my heart aches for my son.

And you, my dear, have a soft spot in your heart. Thanks for showing us that part of you.

I hope the recovery is going well.
