I dreamt last night of when I was a kid and on a trip with my dad. My parents had divorced when I was 4, so we didn't get to see him much. He was always there He served in the Navy, SeaBee. (Yes I was, and still am very proud of him, as with ALL who have served and are serving still.) ANYWAYSSS..
My dad would came and get us kids, I have an older sister and a younger brother. He would take us on some awesome vacations. We always camped out. I think my dad had over half of the KOAs marked off the book...LOL. He took us to see the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Mesa Verde. Which I think those 3 are still my favorite places. Great memories there. We have been all over Colorado, Estes, Garden of the Gods..Man did we put some miles on his vehicles.
We had gone up to Yellowstone via Cody, Wyo. We stopped and spent a few days to go through the Buffalo Bill Museum there ( and back then you needed 3 days to see it all, and now you need a week). We got to Yellowstone and I was lost..
Oh my.. this is really where my love of mountains, rivers, streams, wildlife really hit me. I mean I have always lived in the country, grew up in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana. But to see all that wild beauty there, was awesome.
I have always love the old stories, lore of places in the West.
We walked and camped all over there.. I heard my first Elk bugle, at 4 am..damn I thought someone was being murdered outside..LMAO. My dad still teases me about that..fell outta the bunk trying to get outta the sleeping bag..Then as now..I sleep nekkied..so was a shock for Pops and my brother.. Rest of trip was just as fun..
I still have my pictures. And will always be grateful for our trips..
Now I live up here in Alaska. How many of you have been here?? Seen anything this wild, totally untamed, so crisply beautiful?? SO VAST?? And so dangerous?? And for those of you who do not realize how big we truely are..Texas and a few of the small states can fit inside our boundries. We have more ocean front then the rest of the US together.. Yes these are facts. We get to point them out to tourists all the time.
We have so much up here to see and do.. I do miss the amusment park and the roller coasters..
My favorite thing up here, and I doubt it will change, are our Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis.(and the moose in town!!) Have any of you seen the sky 'dance'??
I watch these and everything just disappears..weight from shoulders just float away.. But the great shows are in the cool nights of early spring and fall, and best in winters..
So come see them, or share your vacation memories..Whats you favorite thing about where you live or have been??
I did come up here on vacation first before I moved..!!

LOL, boy do they hate that fact huh???|
I don;t think I am really deprived from not being born here. I have lived or at least been to a lot of places in the US. I know a few who have never been out of their states. I am missing 11 states. But this one says 'home' to me.
