Well as you all know today is 06/06/06 which is the number of the beast. The remake of the omen screened today no surprise there. Also a little town in michigan gets its 15 minutes of fame as the name of the town is Hell. I swear I would feel at home there returning at night from work to see a sign that says welcome to Hell. Kinda just makes you feel right at home. As an side note the 666th comment on my blog happened sometime early this morning. I also currently have 665 comments that I have made myself must be coincidence.

A lot of people believe this to be a day of ill omen. Some believe it will bring about the antichrist. I've never put any stock in superstitions nor am I at all religous so it doesn't bother me.

I wonder though why so many place stock in silly little rituals. Such as not walking under ladders groaning when a black cat crosses their path. Seriously why the prejudice for black cats? Even going so far as not having a thirteenth floor in most buildings. Is there a logical explanation for why people place such importance on such trivial occurences. Perhaps I should pay more attention to these things as I will never claim to have had the best of luck.

Some people just follow strange patterns in the name of luck. I've known people who always eat a chicken leg before they start work because thats what they ate before they got a promotion. People who rub their cards together before they look at a poker hand. Of course the whole having someone blow on dice for you before you shoot craps. I can't understand any of it except for the last one if your asking a beautiful woman.

Do you have any superstitions or irrational rituals you partake in before proceeding with something?

I always have to pat my cat on the head before I leave my apartment and I don't even know why, but it's become a ritual. That might just be a psychological thing if something happens to me or to her in the meantime though.

I have lucky jewelry and stones I bust out every once in awhile though for different situations. I also have some charms for protection. Sheesh, I'm a lot more superstitious than I thought.
I even collect wise owls and have some good fortune kitties here...

It's my son's Birthday today! He *IS* a little devil.
Nothing bad happened, he didn't grow horns, and no accidents happened. In fact, he's happily in bed reading a story with Daddy right now.
I remember soon after he was born that I realized his birthday would one day be 6/6/6. Just thought it was neat.

I don't believe in dates being a sign of anything. The cycles of the sun & our planet were there long before people ever came along and gave them names of days, months and years. I don't think humans have any say over what goes on in the universe. Anyone who believes in such things as the new millenium being the end of the world puts WAY too much importance on man's ability to name things.

What I don't get is why some people don't realize that we had another millenium a thousand years ago, and nothing bad happened. We had a 6/6/6 a thousand years ago, and nothing bad happened. So, why should it now?

I AM superstitious, though. I won't walk under ladders, umbrellas will NEVER be opened indoors. It's not because I actually believe in bad luck... I'd just rather avoid tempting fate.

I seem to break mirrors all the time... I have enough bad luck to last me a long, long time.

I have a lucky necklace and it has never failed me.

When I lived in Virginia and we had a 2 story home. I found myself counting steps to the basement. I would touch every other rail on the banister downstairs.

I wear so many good luck charms around my neck and around my wrists that my knuckles are hideously callused from dragging on the ground and my spine somewhat resembles a widow’s hump. I tend to walk like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. It’s sexy.

I know a bunch of old superstitions but consider them to be fodder for fun. For example, one year for Christmas my Mother gave me a set of Henckel knives and I had to “pay” her a penny. As folklore goes, if you give somebody something sharp, it will severe your friendship. Therefore my giving her a penny, I paid her for the knives.

She also used to say, “Dimple in the chin, devil within.” You can just call me Lilith the Succumbus. It’s a damn good thing she didn’t say, “Dimples in the thighs, you’ll never get a guy.” Or, maybe she did---thus the excess of lucky charms around my neck and wrists. Ho-Hum.

Dont forget though some people cant help their 'suspicions' many suffer from OCD & their seemingly suspicious like acts are actually rituals that they cannot get through the day without doing. They feel something awful will happen if the dont do things in a certain order or at a certain time.

I am not a superstitious person...except for when J was born. My c-section was scheduled for the wednesday as i was poorly & they wanted to get her out...wednesday child is full of woe!!

I got myself so worked up that my child was going to be born on a wednesday me...& maybe she would have all the bad luck i have that i got myself even more stressed out & consequently both myself & J were in the danger zone then. She was delivered pretty much immediately. 8.34pm this very date 13 years ago. A monday.

I check my pockets and shoulder bag 5 times before I will lock my door on my way out somewhere...this may be some form of OCD but it is something I do on a regular basis...even if I am just going to check my mail or to take out the trash...

DBG: You're traveling through another dimension,
a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind;
a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination.
That's the signpost up ahead-- your next stop . . . AFFLand!!!

TMK: Good Point!

Real36c: See its the things people never seem to notice they just kind of do them absentmindedly. When you ask them though they are quick to say "OH I'm not superstitious."

SSS: I was hoping you would show up for this I remember you emailing me when my Al posts were 666. I'm rather surprised you went to work yesterday at all considering. Shoes on a table I never heard of that one. Even sweating over one six in a confirmation you must spend a lot of energy refreshing pages. So SSS when you get a good confirmation number do you play it I mean in the lotto?

Hippie: Happy B-day to the little devil/angel!!
I do agree with you that people put so much value on specific dates. Sometimes they invite bad luck upon themselves by worrying about it so much. I've heard theologians argue the millenium thing as well on the basis that we don't necessarily follow the same time frame as God. Ie: one day to him could be a year for us and so on. Not that I'm religious just affirming your point that yes man places to much value on what he defines as correct. Also 6/6/6 happens every hundred years not just one thousand.

I know about your love of fate and leaving things to it. I don't do stupid things like that purposefully. My mom has a really strange superstition though if she sees horseshit she steps in it as she thinks that to be good luck. I don't get it.

Mari: Depends on what kind of cards you are playing it could be correct. In poker you want to see others peoples reaction to there cards. In spades or hearts you don't want to pick up your cards one at time as people can try to read how many of the trump suit you have based on the way you place them in your hand.

Frassy: A lucky charm I can see as those are usually given by someone special to you. They hold more importance than just to bring luck.

SW3: Well well that would make you a Seductive Demonic Soul Stealing Quasimodo I doubt you need all those charms hanging off of you. I wonder do they ever get caught on anything I can only imagine your dismay having one accidentally catch onto your shirt as you go to wave good bye.

Never heard of the sharp object thing. My mothers were you couldn't pickup tail sided coins from the ground. When your left hand is itchy you are supposed to come into money. Some random others I can hardly think of.

Phoe: Think of it now 13 years later it is a wednesday is the thirteen a coincidence. Ah hell don't worry about those wacky wednesdays.

Spunky: I see the Europeans have the right idea there.

Gypsy: Sounds alot like a friend of mine although even with all that checking she will still end up locking herself out or leaving the cellphone.

You are exactly right people tend to make their own bad luck by becoming so stuck upon their superstitions. They worry so much when a bad omen happens that they create the situation.

I have a thing with people emailing me with that chain crap. They send this long poem of love or some writing that they found or had emailed to them. Then they decide to email it to me, putting on the end something like...Forward this message to all those you love and tomorrow at 6:25:07 P.M. on stingy street just before you trip over the curb, you will find the love of your life. *GRRRRR* That shit pisses me off.

Well, I broke my own "no bullshit" code . I got one yesterday that had soldiers in Iraq, coddling youngsters and mingling with the population. What was at the end?...You guessed it, and I did it.

Why you ask?

I will be returning to Iraq someday and they just hit the right cord with me. All I could think was...hmmm....WHAT IF? BASTARDS!....WHY DID THEY DO THIS TO ME?!

After about 30 minutes pondering, I broke down and began forwarding the shit out of it. Oh well...a guy is entitled to his moment of weakness once in a while right?

You know I was gonna say I don't have any superstitions which I really don't.

Then I read sexyeyes last line and couldn't agree more.

Then I read 1000ft's bit about chain letters and couldn't agree more with that too.

Most of those chain letters are anonymous crap with no real purpose. Other than how it makes you feel. If you feel positive and lucky... that's great. It's unlikely to change anything in the real world, other than like attracting like.

So perhaps it does make a difference.

A tidbit (or two) for ya...

The number of the beast is "six hundred, three score and six." This unique phrase appears twice in the KJAV Bible... once in Revalation and once in 1Kings, which is a reference to the weight of gold (666 talents - I believe a Greek talent was 86+/- lbs of silver and a gold talent was double that) which came to Solomon in the span of a year (a result of taxes.)

It is also interesting to note another statement found within the Bible which is simply... "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil." And one additional closing thought... Only gold and silver are defined as money, in the Bible. It is also a fact the US Constitution allows for only the coining of money from gold and silver. But, "All the gold is mine and all the silver is mine; thus saith the Lord."

Superstitions? Or are they more precisely an acquired awareness of the ability of a circumstance to be exposed as the possible cause of a certain event which may follow it... which is just another way of expressing the idea 'you can dog-jive some of the people some of the time, but you can't just run an engine up to 8K RPM until adequate oil has been delivered to the upper end gallery.'

Solar... (out of the clear blue of the Western Sky)

Hm, my superstitions are really just quirks about me. One I have has to do with the number's my lucky/favorite number and it is significant in many areas of my life. And three three's are nine so nine is perfect....I have a whole little spiel about it.

I always throw salt over my left shoulder when I spill it. And if someone else doesn't I'll throw it for them! lol.

Those are the biggies....but I try and avoid things like opening umbrellas indoors and I don't like to 'split the post': that's when you are walking with someone and you have an obstacle to go around, like a lamppost, if you allow the lamppost to go between you and the other person/s you split the post. It is supposed to cut through the energy connection between you and the others.

I'm sure I have other little things,'s all part of what makes us ourselves, isn't it?
