blog update

I have a question for ever one concerning blog comments and my replies to those comments. I'm going to run this like a poll. Please drop me a note and let me know what you think and why.

I do my very best to reply to everyone who drops a comment in my blog, and there are a number of ways to accomplish the replies. I am interested in knowing which method you prefer, and why you prefer it.

My goal is to promote conversation in the blogs I write, either betweeen me and my readers or between readers. I think that is what these blogs should be about - communication.

With this in mind, I wonder if my method of replying to comments can encourage or discourage readers to strike up conversations in the blogs?

So, with these thoughts and questions in mind, I present to you the following poll:

Of the following methods, which one do you prefer?

Why do you prefer it?

Do you think any one of them encourages conversation more than the others?

1) one-to-one replies. I like an individual response from the author to my comment.

2) bulk replies. I think the blog is neater and easier to read when the author writes individual replies but does it all in one or two comments.

3) I like when the author uses the new "quote' feature so I know exactly what he is talking about.

4)I don't care how the author replies, as long as it is done quickly. Replies two days later turn me off.

5)I don't care how the author replies. I'd love to strike up a conversation, but I barely have time to come back and see his reply. There are too many blogs to keep going back to conversations in past blogs.

Please pick as many of these option that apply to you. Please note that "It's your blog, do what you want" is not a listed option! I know it's my blog, and I will do what I want, but right now I want to see what y'all think about the issue.

I think 1 or 2 probably work out the best. Each comment doesn't always warrant a reply though. The new quote feature still has some bugs in it, but it comes in handy once in a while. As far as how fast you reply, that all depends on what is going on in your life on any given day and if people can't understand that, tough. As far as number 5 goes, this site is S L O always have wait time when you are here. It's not that hard to catch up.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

5er, I would have to say going with #3 would be the best, taking into consideration #1...

Especially if there are a lot of comments, this just makes it easier to understand what you are responding to in the first place, as far as us readers are concerned...

I love reading the replies, and the replies to the replies, and I just think that makes it easier to follow...

Bulk replies are neater, but it limits how much you can say...and we still have to go back through the post to see what the original comment was in the first place... Of course, this works fine if there aren't a lot of comments on the post (less than a page long..)

I think that it all depends on the type of post. But in general, I think grouping several comments to say back to people who leave comments is fine...and I think that even if you did group several doesn't matter how long your comment is. Doesn't have to be short and sweet unless thats what it is.

I also think most people understand that people do have actual lives and so getting back to respond sometimes may take awhile. Not to mention the site itself...we all know what that's like. Don't we?

Some comments don't necessarily "invite" a reply back from the host... some are just mere snippets of a simple agreement while others (and I am guilty of this one) may leave way too long of a comment...usually because something has touched me deeply and the need to say it is important to me...maybe not to someone else...but its often something I really want them to know... now... I'm getting too wordy. Sorry.

The quote feature is nice... it works...I kinda like it.
I do think comments back and forth between host and readers...and between readers to readers is a good thing and promotes a kinship of sorts...and often times it's very entertaining. Especially when there's a game of some sort goin on....or other mischief.

I think sharing comments back and forth regardless of who talks to who... is a great value in that this is how we form our friendships and bonds...from miles and miles away. It's how we learn about each other...and from each other.

I think your request for no comments on certain special occasions is very it shows the honor and respect of your heart for that particular subject...regardless of who or what it is....that was just beautiful....and it shows the purity of those feelings.

5'er..funny you should ask this because one of the reasons I prefer your blog (aside from your writing style) is because you are an "equal opportunity" replier, you reply to all of us. You don't pick and choose based on who your friend is or what they say. DT and Jez are also great at this. Others are not so good and I rarely comment in their blogs because of it. When you are new to blogs as I am, it really helps to have someone reply to your posts as you get the confidence to remark to them.

My preference would be the individual comment. If I have taken the time to comment in your blog, I prefer to have the author take the time to reply back to me if one is warranted. However, I would never stop reading a blog or commenting if the reply is in list form. When DT replies to me, she uses my initials, CB and I know even in list form that she is talking to me. This saves the quote space and time and makes things clear.

I have no preference in regards to the amount of time it takes for a reply. I flip back often to posts I know I replied to and see if a comment is there for me to read. If not, I move on. I know people are busy and commenting is not always possible.

Reading your blog has inspired me to start my own blog, which I hope one day to transfer to this site (I use a smaller site right now) as my confidence grows. Your blog is one of my favorites. Keep up the good work!

As a sidenote, great post for DT. She is another one of my faves and I wish you the best!!

Its your blog, do what you want.

What I want do on my blog is reply to everyone in one post. Much neater, doesn't artificailly inflate the number of comments on the post and I find it the easiest way. That said, I do quite like the new quote feature.

I think it's all about time and preference.

In other words, "it's your blog, do what you want."
Spank me! I've been bad!

I prefer the mental telepathy method myself, but you probably already know this because I just told you with my mind. hehe!

You know I don't care just as long as I am recognized or I'll throw another fit, damn it! hehe!

#2, neat and easy to read.

Daphne, Thanks for the input. The second option has become my personal favorite because it is quicker and neater, especially when I am running behind. If I can stay caught up and current, I don’t mind leaving individual replies, but when I am behind (like now) I get so pissy waiting on the pages to load between posting individual comments.

Digdug, I have never responded to your comments? There is something awry here, my friend. I thought I always responded to you? I still remember one of the very first comments you left me; it may have been the first… I think it was in the blog where anyone could ask me a question, and you asked me if I thought the military brainwashes people. I am sorry if I have over looked you since then. It wasn’t intentional!

Darius, I agree with what you said about the third option, but the site is so sloooow some times. I get tired of waiting for pages to load.

Saddletramsk, welcome to my blog! Thank you for the advice and for calling me sweet cheeks!

Wetpanties, thanks for not caring. Some one mark the calendar! Here is a woman who seems easy to please!

Slide, I agree with everything you wrote. I am inclined to match you comment in length, but I realize I don’t need to. I can say it more simply (for a change. I’m usually blabbering away.)

Carebear, Iam so happy to know I have inspired you to write. If I may ever be of help to you, please let me know. I am also glad that you appreciate my attempts at being fair. I have friends on this site, some of whom I know better than others, but in my blog I try very hard not to play favorites. I figure we are all in this together.

Redlips…. I can’t do whatever floats my boat because it’s only legal in two places on earth, and America isn’t one of them. So I’ll blog instead.

Albert, the lists in one post are neater, and faster, but I can see how they could get confusing.

DT, that’s it! 50 lashes with a wet noodle!

36, 3 is a great way to do things, and I may start using it in the future, just to make things more clear. We’ll see.

Sweet Jess, consider yourself duly recognized, oh friend of mine! Now, please quit trying to use your telepathy to over write my first sexual encounter and make me think I lost my virginity to Bozo the Clown. Your jedi mind tricks will not work on me!

Snatchmatch, I have been using option 2 for a while now. I only worry that it is harder to pick out individual relies and tie them back to the original comment.

I like number 1 cause thats ME!

I also like number 1 cause that's ME too!

But really I like number 1 cause you can stir up some crazy shit, and get a really funny chain comment going on.

I don't worry about the quote feature. I reckon I'm smart enough to follow conversation threads without the quoting.

Oh shit! What was the question again?

Oh yeah! Number 1... ME
